The Foresters, Horley

Lively town pub a bit rowdy over the weekend. A few decent ales on offer and quite cheap so has its good points. Quite good for an early evening drink. Loud music at the weekend makes it difficult to relax and chat as the evening goes on. Stumbling past the narrow bar area to get to the loos can be annoying. Ladies loo is not good apparently! Good and bad points here really.

Went for a bike ride thought we'd stop here as I hadn't been here for ages. It was a nice spring evening so was surprised the place was pretty empty. You get treated like you've walked into a restaurant , shown to your seat, waiter gets your drinks etc. so doesn't feel like a pub anymore. We decided to eat, I went for the curry night option. You get 2 'dishes' and rice, nann, onion bajis for 11 or so. I chose a chicken and a prawn dish. When it came the size of the dishes was laughable. The 2 of them together was not enough for me! The accompaniments were ok. The curry tasted just like the supermarket microwave jobs. My partner had duck salad which was surprisingly plentiful - a better choice than the curry with a mixture of roasted and shredded duck although tasted too much of aniseed. It was served with croutons which were soggy pieces of cheep sliced bread. I cant see that I would bother going there again or any other 'Chef and Brewer' establishment. The trouble is that all the pubs are being taken over by these companies which is killing any individuality.
