Friendly atmosphere from staff and customers; live music at weekends, some good bands. Beer fine, parking at back, relaxed closing times. What's not to like?

The Alma, Cambridge

The Alma's been a music venue for over thirty years. Sadly, due to increasingly heavyhanded council interference, it now only has bands on Saturday nights (it used to be Thursday to Sunday when I started going there). It's been through several landlords and at least one change of brewery (from Tolly to Ridleys) but still is a friendly place to have a good pint and enjoy a decent local band. There's never any trouble, women on their own aren't hassled, and the atmosphere's good. So it makes perfect sense for the council to try and hound it out of existence. They should be ashamed of themselves.
