The Anchor Inn, Godalming

ONE10 or The Anchor, does it really matter? The reality is that it has always been known by both, as 110 is the street address for this establishment. According to 'triumph' all the pub needs to do is uproot it's self and move into the town centre, while catering for the flood of morris dancers... Perhaps it's time for a reality check. ONE10 is hampered by having no parking and a poor reputation, and these things take effort and time to overcome - effort on behalf of the good people of Godalming to walk there and enjoy the excellent selection of beers, wines and well kept ales, and time to build it's trade. As for the wall colour comments, come on guys, you'd think no-one had ever painted a pub wall white before. The old Anchor was smelly, sticky, dark and intimidating, the beer lines were ruined and the kitchen was unspeakable. The new place is clean, fresh, airy, hygenic and making a serious effort at keeping a pub within the community. Use it or lose it, 50+ pubs are closing a week, perhaps we should be a little more understanding of those making an effort to keep this one open and actually investing in it. Come in, bring your friends, make suggestions, participate. Just don't stand on the sidelines and snipe, then grouch when the place closes because you didn't use it. Love your local - it's an endangered species.
