The Bridge House, St Neots

This pub has recently been refurbished after a fire destroyed part of the restaurant and caused smoke damage throughout the whole building and I have to say that all the changes have been for the better. The bar area still has it's old look and traditional beams but new furnishings and a paint job do help to improve the overall impression. The restaurant is (thankfully) no longer that awful, stark white with furniture that would have been better suited to a conservatory and the whole decor is now surprisingly modern, but not to such an extent that it doesn't suit the surroundings.
The views of the river are still amazing and only enhance your dining experience which I have to say was very good. The new menu has been slimmed down from the old one (it had at least 25 items before!) but still gives you plenty of choice- meat, fish, chicken and a number of vegetarian options amongst others. All the food is fairly priced although don't have any qualms about requesting more vegetables/side orders if you aren't happy with your portion, the staff are more than willing to oblige. In fact, the staff are one of the best things about the Bridge House. Their uniforms are perhaps a little too formal for a town pub but they all manage to pull them off and are always ready to serve you with a smile, especially the restarurant supervisor, a young man whose name I can't remember but who was very accomodating (though perhaps in need of a slight hair cut).
Overall, I would have to say that our evening at the Bridge House was a vast improvement on prior visists and this has quickly become a favourite with us. I can only advise that people take a drive over to St Neots and experience it for yourself.
