The Blue Boar, Thornton

Yes, pubs like the Blue Boar do still exist! The Boar is a small pub on the outskirts of Thornton full of characters. There are 3 ales on draght - Taylors Landlord, Tetley and something from Copper Dragon (Skipton). There is a pool room, no juke box and no food. Although this really is a locals pub the casual visitor will, eventually, be made welcome!

The Briton's Protection Hotel, Castlefield

Absolutely fantastic pub which has to be included in any crawl down this area of Manchester. Always a good crowd and a decent selection of ales. Think they do meals but I have only ever had sandwiches - these are good value. Near to the Temple and the Peveril of the Peak. Open til 12 on a weekend.

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Based upon typical Amsterdam brown bar although the choice of European beers is not as big as you might initially think. There are perhaps 20 + bottles, 5 or 6 Europeans on tap and 3 or 4 British ales on the pumps. There is also Thatchers cider and other bottled bits and bobs. Jukebox is good as is the beer garden / smoking area out the back. The staff are very helpful with recommendations, tasting notes etc.
