The White Horse, Pleshey

The White Horse is an excellent free pub with some unusual features, and is very rambler friendly. It will open up early for rambler groups if they require the toilets in the pub and it will sell boot and shoe covers for just 20p! There is a gift shop inside which sells souvenirs, cards, candles and the like. Much of the floor space is given over to eating as it is as much of a restaurant as it is a pub. There are four menus no less: a bar snacks menu, a la carte, a specials menu, paying a set price for any two courses and also a seafood menu. The Almond Nut Roast, Casserole of Duckling and Mike�s Hot & Cold Lobster dish are amongst the choices. The pub especially caters for those who have an allergy to wheat flour and so many dishes are gluten free. The pub is not big on beers, selling Youngers Bitter, but it has an extensive wine list for its diners.

The White Hart, Coggeshall

The White Hart is a hotel as well as a pub of character and parts of the building date from the 15th century. It serves food of a high standard. As well as a bar menu there is an a la carte menu, a summer salad menu and a specials menu which changes every week. They flamb� the food in the restaurant and the Sunday roasts are carved at the tables. Food is not cheap thpough. Breakfast is available in the mornings. There is an extensive selection of wines and the beer is IPA Green King.

The Black Lion, High Roding

The Black lion is a friendly pub in the heart of the little village of High Roding. It is a fourteenth century coaching inn of some character. It serves a good Sunday lunch and the choices includes the usual snacks, a kids menu and a specials board with several options. There is a good selection of ales also.
