The Ship and Anchor, Ford

I had heard by word of mouth about the legendary animosity one could encounter at this pub, and 20-30 people on Saturday confirmed this. There was a charity event, a swim called the River Arun Pub Crawl, coming down the river to raise funds for a local Childrens Hospice. When a group of spectators came to the Ship and Anchor to watch the swimmers and have a drink, they were turned away in no uncertain terms despite explaining to the landlady what they were doing. They left, and some ended up at The Arun View, some went back to the Black Rabbit, where they were welcomed, warmed and spent their money. I am sorry that local legend has on this occasion proved correct.
