The Stags Head Inn, Lelley

The Stags Head used to be me and my familys favourite pub in East Yorkshire, we own a holiday home in Withernsea and we always looked forward to going there for a special night and lovely food, unfortunately the pub has new owners. We visited the stags head on good friday we were all looking forward to a special meal when we arrived we noticed a sign saying under new management there wasnt many people dining which was a bad sign as it is usualy a busy pub for food but we were hoping the food had remained as good as usual. I ordered the crispy duck salad starter and the beef stew and horseradish dumplins. my mum ordered the crispy duck salad and the lasagne and my dad ordered the barbecue ribs starter and the lamb kebab main. the starters arived, the duck was soggy and tasted like it had been bought frozen with a disgusting artificial taste it was served in a sort of popadom which was also soggy. the ribs again were frozen boil in the bag style same as what you might buy from a supermarket as a frozen ready meal. the lasagne was uninspiring it tasted like mince meat cooked in a jar of generic red pasta sauce topped with a bit of pasta and chedder cheese not fresh tasting at all, the lamb kebab was actualy quite well presented on a bed of salad, the lamb was supposed to be marinated in mint and red wine but it didnt taste of a lot at all it was dry, over cooked and cold the beef stew and horseradish dumplins was very average the dumplins didnt taste of horseradish at all but it was probably the best dish out of the three it came with a seperate plate of cold boiled veg and a reddy orange paste which we couldnt work out if it was carrot, sweet potato, or swede it was hard to tell because it tasted of absolutely nothing. Its really dissapointing that the food at our favourite pub has turned so horribly bad, of course its still a beautiful pub and the staff were friendly and welcoming but the beer wasnt as good as it used to be either.

p.s. does anyone know where the old management went do they have another pub?

Fox & Coney Inn, South Cave

whilst on an Easter weekend break at withernsea where we own a static carravan, we decided to visit south cave (which i have to say is a beautiful village) to have a look round the farmers market, whilst there we called in the fox and coney for a spot of lunch and a drink. The girl who was behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming and the pub had an excellent choice of real ales i opted for a pint of Theakston's XB it was a lovely drink, for food I ordered the hot beef and onion sandwich on ciabatta and a bowl of chips, my wife ordered the pancetta black pudding and chorizo salad. when my lunch arrived it was presented quite average, cut in half with a crescent of crisps the ciabatta would have been a lot better if it had been warmed through in the oven for a couple of minutes to crisp it up. the beef was the ready cooked sliced beef in gravy with a few chopped red onions in it and the chips were undercooked, it was disapointing. My wifes lunch came and it looked fantastic very well presented on a big white plate with lovely fresh crisp salad topped with chorizo, black pudding and crispy pancetta the plate was garnished with a balsamic dressing and it tasted absolutely delicious we found it amazing that these two dishes came from the same kitchen, all in all we enjoyed our visit my wife enjoyed the food and i enjoyed the Beer. i would call in again if i was visiting south cave but i would avoid the hot beef and onion sandwich and chips.
