The Salisbury, Harringay

I really like this pub. The building is stunning, the beer really good, the atmosphere great and the bar staff friendly, but I'm afraid that the food here has gone badly downhill.

I've not been for a few weeks so it may have improved - but the last couple of times I went there the people doing the food didn't seem to know whether they want to be a poncey overpriced gastro pub or purveyors of standard pub fare and this confusion is reflected in the food. The burger i had was deliscious - but completely ruined by the bap - which was one of those lightweight, iceland-style horrors that disintegrates as soon as you pick it up (no excuse with one of thebest bakeries in North London opposite). My girlfriend had the "home-made" fischcake - which really took the piss. It cost around �9 and was a perfectly triangular factory-produced mcdonald's style fish burger.

The sunday roast was a big disappointment too. Stingey and overpriced.

It's a shame, because the last people to do the food here - a fiery Italian couple - did a great job. It was unpretentious but interesting , and reasonably priced. - and the Sunday roast was great.
