The Borough Arms, Gateshead

The best pub in Gateshead town centre (possibly the only one worth visiting). Good selection of beers, well kept, and a friendly 'local' atmosphere. Allegedly the oldest pub in Gateshead.

The Harp, Covent Garden

I must be in a minority of one, as while I liked the atmosphere, the beer was pretty diabolical. Meeting up with a few friends in London after travelling I was looking forward to my first pint of real beer for months, only to be bitterly disappointed. Barely drinkable. Had to wait until I got to Newcastle for a decent pint.

The Free Trade Inn, Byker

Very over-rated pub, with an admittedly excellent view of the Tyne. Popular amongst the chattering classes of nearby Heaton. Can't have had a penny spent on renovation in the last 20 years, so nowadays very dingy with nasty toilets. Worst pub quiz in the history of the world held every Wednesday.
