The Lion Hotel, Farningham

As part of Vintage Inns this is more of a restaurant. I have lunched or dined here 7 or 8 times this year and enjoy the food and choice of ales (usually three). It is popular and nearly always busy. It is likely to get even busier when summer arrives as it is by the River Darent. Service can be slow (staff are hard pushed but friendly); that apart, I would recommend it.

The Bull, Horton Kirby

The Bull is under new management who are trying hard to restore to it's former glory. There is usually a good choice of beer with up to six real ales. Occasionally the range is limited and Hophead is not my favourite. How I wish more pubs would take recommendations from their regular / semi-regular clients rather than assume we particularly like drinking what remains available when the choice is Hophead and American Pale Ale. Most of my friends prefer traditional style ales like Doom Bar which has been very good but runs out - surely there is a message here. Also the wine range is very limited and our wives don't think they get much choice at all! As it is my local I will try to use it more often. I sincerely hope the new management succeed.

The Phelips Arms, Montacute

Had lunch here in July. Food and service were fine and staff friendly. Three Palmer's on, including Copper Ale. Based on my experienc e I would go back again.
