It is seriously depressing to read some of these recent articles, especially when we look back to nearly 50 years of commitment and hard work to get to where we are.

Yes - we are the same family that moved into Speldhurst in 1961, same person actually, with some younger generations added!

Occasionally, when one has a popular bar things get out of hand but that�s not to say that we don�t take action to avert any similar problems.

We have taken strong measures, liaising with the police to ensure that there is no drug related goings on - a town wide problem. We have banned many and have a zero tolerance policy, we have also raised the minimum drinking age to 21

The very popular Sunday night music has also ceased following neighbourhood complaints about volume.

To further stress our commitment, we have completely refurbished our restaurant and oyster bar. We trust that this will send a strong message that we intend to trade on to our 50th birthday in style. We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the Good Pub Guide Kent eating pub of the Year 2008
