The Hope, Wandsworth Common

The Hope shouldn't be a particularly nice boozer, given the area I'd expect it be to Clapham rugby shirt territory. Yet it's actually a very good place to go because (i) the beer's good, (ii) the food is good and reasonably priced for the area (good weekday offers), and (iii) the staff are friendly and have been here a long time, which might reflect the fact that the manager/owner seems to treat them well.

Just a shame it's not a bit bigger. And the quiz night is hit and miss.

The Long Room Bar and Hotel, Tooting

It's a bit of a mystery why the Long Room isn't very popular, whilst the likes of Antelope and the Selkirk do good business. There's plenty of space, comfortable sofas, reasonably prices and it's still frequented by both the old Mitre drinkers and yer newer Village types. Never a problem getting a seat or getting served. If you're in Tooting, use your imagination and move a few metres further from the Underground station to find this option for a comfortably night out.

The best design feature has to be the step up to the disabled toilet. And yes, we have seen a wheelchair user getting stuck. Unclever.

The Antelope, Tooting

Not bad, not bad at all and a world of different to Jack Beard's - great to see that the back room has been opened up. I haven't tried the food yet but that's probably because I think that 13 for Sunday lunch is too high for this type of (gastro?)pub. It ain't Gordon Ramsay FFS. However the beer is good, the environment nice (in that Antic chain style) and it's a good contrast to the louder, larger Tram and Social. Welcome addition for middle class types.
