The Hop Vine, Burscough

No-one has yet said that this absolute gem of a pub also brews its own beer (Burscough Brewery), of which Mere Gold is one, and is indeed delicious. I also sampled Nettle Thrasher and a Burton Bridge ale, which were also superb. Despite the fact that the pub was heaving they still found me a table for 1 without a booking! I had two courses, the first of which was very tender Kashmiri Lamb followed by Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding. This place cannot be improved upon. Visited 8th September, 2012. Stayed locally for Southport Airshow.

The Ferry Inn, Cawood

Went here on Sept 20th on our way home from the York Real Ale and Cider Festival. We had Everards Sunchaser, Caledonian Deuchars and Taylor's Landlord, which were all excellently kept. Didn't have the food but that wasn't the reason we paid a visit; however, the people in the vicinity of our table were very happy with theirs. This is not the first time I have stopped off here for a beer and have yet to be disappointed.

The Sheaf View, Heeley

I pretty much concur with everything that has been said. The clientele is a real cross-section and the beer is excellent. I had a pint of Spire Sergeant Pepper Stout at 5.5% ABV and my partner, White Rose White Lightning, a hoppy 4.4% pale ale, which were extremely well kept. No wonder it has so many entries in the Good Beer Guide.
Pub was heaving on Saturday evening - says it all these days. Some interesting sandwiches on at lunchtime too.
