The Windmill Tavern, Waterloo

From reading the reviews you'd think this was some insane sports bar - which i guess it may well be if the footy is on. But i went on a Friday night and it was nice to find a pub in this area that wasn't completely and utterly rammed. You could get served quickly at the bar by friendly bar staff.

Doom Bar on tap which tasted OK, not amazing.

Not a bad pub overall, although not quite as good as the Stage Door round the corner (although that pub is a little more brown / old man so maybe if you're on a date, go to the windmill, or a restaurant!).

The Prince of Teck, Earls Court

Ground floor bar has a big screen for the footy although bizarrely all the seats are spread out round the edges of the pub leaving a massive empty strip in front of the screen consisting of people getting in each other's way.

That said the beer was OK and the bar staff capable. Didn't stay too long after the footy but it is very convenient to Earls Court and a lot less pretentious than the Kings Head round the corner (which doesn't show the footy).

With a front door and a side door you'll be in a constant draft from smokers going in and out - a modern day hazard of the public house.

The Captain Cook, Putney

I went here last night for the quiz (starts 8pm ish not 9) and all the bar staff I spoke to were polite, didn't see any of the problems other users have reported. Bit rubbish on the ale front - just John Smiths, no real ales.

Had a good evening, the quizmaster is great, enthusiastic and it's all for charidy which is nice.

Also had some of the Thai food which was really good.

Seems a bit like a pub trying to be a restaurant which i really hate as it tends to kill the atmosphere but that aside i'd happily go back for the quiz night.
