The Earl Of Burlington, Eastbourne

Visited on Sat lunchtime so full of OAP's, Kid's in Pushchairs etc. Very full but the food is very reasonable but you pay for what you get. Wine was drinkable as was the lager. Good service from guys behind the bar. Very similar to all other JD Wetherspoons, no atmosphere and too big.

The Old Cross, Chichester

Visited early evening prior to going to theatre. We were the only ones in there. We asked if we could order food and the guy behind the bar said he's better go and see whether they had got a chef that evening!!!!! They did have and we ordered fish and chips. The chips were fine if tasteless but the fish hadn't been de-boned and I spent the meal removing bones from my mouth. I gave up in the end and just ate the chips. No atmosphere whatsoever which is a pity because it's in a good location. Young man that served us was perfectly aimiable and polite which is all I ask for in a barman. Probably won't go back.

The Anchor Inn, Ringmer

Considering that this is to all intents and purposes the Village local, it manages to escape that kind of image. It's got it all, good beer, good food, comfy sofas etc. but it also manages to have a kind of cool laid back kind of ambiance which you rarely get in village pubs. Landlord and staff are also cool and laid back but friendly and efficient at the same time.
