The Tom Cobley, Spreyton

I've made two visits to this village and its pub, and both occasions were superb. A really fine list of ales on offer, and the food is just as welcome. The hospitality received was first class, and the place has a great atmosphere. Good bed and breakfast accommodation here too, so this is very much worth the effort to visit, especially combined with some walks/drives around the local area. Gets a Highly Recommended.

The Weighbridge, Alvechurch

Could this be the best located pub anywhere? A short train ride from urban surroundings to a country setting, which provides plenty of opportunity to combine a visit to the pub with some walks, or just look at some lovely scenery. Forget the pub, it's worth coming to Alvechurch just for that. But you really shouldn't forget the pub, because it's just as fantastic as Alvechurch itself.

A great place for those who enjoy ales of all kinds, you'll find plenty to suit your tastes. A Sunday roast sampled here was plentiful and tasty, so no complaints there. The rooms are old fashioned, in that you have to walk through corridors, doors, and so on, in a most homely fashion, but there is an outside seating area as well. In short, the ideal pub, in the ideal place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham

City centre pubs have become rather standardised - the same interiors, the same drinks, the same musical soundtrack. In short, the same thing that's happened to high street shops. This place has all that. You know what you're getting. BUT...luckily, there's also board games available for a 5 deposit, which in our case was a few good rounds of Connect 4. This pub also has a theatre, which obviously goes down as a plus. So what in other senses is an ordinary city pub has some good extras that make it worth a visit.
