The Waterline, Leith

Popped in here a few times over the years. Was in just after Xmas, very comfortable little bar, wood burning stove in the front. Dining area in the back.
Last had a meal about 2 years ago, remember it was pretty good.
Staff very friendly. Only criticism I would make is the wine list is not good enough ( too short and basic for a pub/restaurant).

The Theatre Royal, Edinburgh

Large mock victorian pub next to Playhouse Theatre. It's only 15 years old but was very well fitted-out and actually looks like a real victorian pub.
Survives on coach trippers going to shows next door. (VERY busy for the 2 hours before each show so probably best avoided then)
Otherwise during the day it's a pleasant, well run pub, walls covered with theatre posters, two real log fires in winter, serves food all day, free newspapers. But not cheap.
Haven't been in after 9pm but I think they turn up the music and cater for the younger crowd then.

Teuchters Landing, Edinburgh

This was known as the Waterfront Wine Bar until a disastrous "makeover" a couple of years ago.
It used to have lovely old wooden booths and tables and a couple of small
cosy backrooms . Highlight was the lengthy, reasonably priced winelist.
There is a dining area at the back.
A very popular bar, it was often packed out with no tables to be had.
But then somebody decided to "improve" it. Out went all the old oak booths, in came a large flatscreen TV blaring out, and tables and chairs which looked like they had come from IKEA. Out went the old winelist to be replaced by short bog standard pub winelist. My jaw dropped when I walked in !
Haven't been back !
