The Freshfield Hotel, Formby

Visited in October 06. Real ale was first class, food ok. Barmaid communicated pleasantly enough with locals but we strangers were made to feel unwelcome. Why not serve people in the order in which they arrive at the bar?

Pant Yr Ochain, Gresford

No amount of superlatives will suffice to describe the experience this pub has to offer. Its country house setting with lake and immaculate gardens is a fine introduction to the delights inside. Excellent real ales (at least 6) and high quality food in a mainly smokeless zone (The whole place is to be smoke free soon).

What makes the place special however is the warm atmosphere generated by appreciative clients and cultivated by staff carefully selected for their natural ability to keep everyone happy.

Why am I telling you all this? I need to keep the place to myself.

The Bhurtpore Inn, Aston

Visited by some CAMRA originals on 20th Dec 2005. Excellent curries, superb beers and great folk music.

Put us down for the Chester bus. We're coming back with reinforcements for the January folk night.
