Masons Arms, Harrogate

Cosy and welcoming village local which accommodates drinkers and diners harmoniously. Beer is well kept - I had excellent pints of Copper Dragon Best and Tetley Bitter. The landlady is particularly proud of the latter, and with good reason. Food was very good, looking and tasting home made, and although a vegetable side dish wouldn't have gone amiss, nothing to complain about. Good value.

Coopers Bar and Brasserie, Guiseley

Coopers is an unusual mix of pub, continental cafe and bistro but it seems to work, and the ambience is excellent when a few people are in. I have visited several times in recent weeks and have been impressed on each occasion. The beer is good, and comes mainly from local breweries, staff are friendly and the food is often of outstanding quality and very good value for money. The menu combines traditional pub dishes with some more adventurous restaurant style offerings, and they do both very well. By far the best eating/drinking venue in the area.
