The Porthole, North Shields

A good old pub with friendly staff and chatty punters. Had Sunday lunch with friends and the food was surprisingly top notch with a guy playing a piano in the background. Lots of film and music themed pictures adorn the walls. 2 real ales were available. Lots of charm. Recommend.

New Fairlop Oak, Barkingside

This pub has its ups and downs. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. The service isn't great and you have to often wait a while before being served. Opt to go during the week when it's less busy and there aren't so many chavs around. The real ale is always good and the landlady is doing her best to improve the pub; again shame about the service at times.

The Butchers Arms, Herne

This is one of the best pubs I've visited. Good beer, great landlord with friendly, chatty punters - what more can you ask of a pub? Do not miss!
