The Castle Inn, Nottingham

I agree with the previous review. This is not what it seems from the outside. In fact completely the opposite. It's a relaxing, civilised, pub, with decent staff and customers and it serves real ales. It is also one of the top six pubs in Nottingham for watching buses from. If you want to watch buses, that is, but I haven't really got time for that sort of thing. Other pubs that I have found to be good to watch buses from are the Southbank on Trent Bridge and the the Falcon on Canning Circus.

The Rose of England, Nottingham

A relaxing, unpretentious, traditional pub, with decent staff and customers. Not too much noise, the tables are the right size, and there are enough of them. In my opinion this might be the best pub in Nottingham. The real ales have always been well kept since I have been going there over the last three years (and there are plenty of pubs in the City where this is not the case). Their usual ones are Bombadier and Abbot which are not my favourites because I prefer beers with a bit lower strength. However, I still keep going to this pub because it is what a pub should be.

The Alexandra Arms, Kettering

I came from Nottingham on Saturday to meet a friend from London and we chose to meet in Kettering as it was about half way (by train). I used this website to select a pub to visit and thought this one looked good. I needed to use a map to find it as it is slightly off the main street in the town centre. It was one of the best pubs I have ever visited, a quiet front room whose walls are covered with beer mats from all over the country. The back room was busier, with a TV to keep up to date with the football scores. I had a beer from the Belvoir brewery which was of excellent condition and temperature. We visited four other pubs in Kettering town centre afterwards and all were decent in their way, but only one (a nice pub opposite the church) had real ale. But the Alexandra Arms is worth commending on this website.
