The Calthorpe Arms, Holborn

Dear oh dear. One of my favourite London boozers in what looks like permanent decline. Was an excellent community pub with very well kept beer and home cooked cheap food. Landlord who had been there for over 30 years has gone, been sold by Youngs to Punch. Visited at 6 on a weekday. Only person in there. Loud bland worst type of 80s pop music playing. Ale undrinkable.

The Bull, London Colney

Quite busy with local geezers watching the football. Pint of Side Pocket undrinkable and obviously cloudy - one sip and I had to return it. Replaced with a poorly kept pint of Landlord.

The Jolly Sailor, St Albans

I notice the comments here are quite old. Public bar still a good old school boozer (haven't been here for many many years). Good quality pint of Youngs. Friendly barstaff. No more expensive than any other good boozer in St Albans, as far as I can see, and cheaper than the more up-themselves places.
