Counting House, Glasgow

Several recent visits meeting up with local friends. This is one-big ass joint with a huge four-sided bar, tables galore and several rooms that can leave you wondering where the rest of your party has gone to. Excellent selection of real ales, bottles and spirits. I was happily surprised to find Skye Brewery's Skye Gold (and Red) available. Food was serviceable - I had fried scampi and chips which hit the spot even if it didn't knock me out. Loud and crowded, it wouldn't be my first choice for a quiet beer. But meeting up with a group of friends right before flying home, it's served the purpose.

The White Hart, Holborn

Recent visit very early Saturday afternoon. Using my trusty Cask Marque app, I found my way to the White Hart after a morning at the British Museum. Quite empty at that time. The interior is a little brighter than most pubs, painted largely in white. I found this a refreshing change from the dreary and dank one often encounters. Solid if somewhat pricey pour of Pride but I appreciated access to the newspapers so I lingered. Staff was fine considering the minimal interaction needed to order and serve up a beer. I imagine this place is jammed on weekdays but this was a quiet and very pleasant - restful even - visit

Curlers Tavern, Glasgow

Recent midweek visit at lunchtime. A bit quiet at first but filled up quickly. Very pleasant barman took my order for food and drink and both were fine. Bangers and mash were excellent. Well poured Harivestoun. Considering I was on my way up Byres Road to visit Tennent's, this proved a solid and unexpected diversion.
