Zulus, Putney Bridge

If I could help mrpant with some history:
The Zulus were like most other African tribes in the region ie. nomadic herders, who migrated in search of grazing for their cattle. Over the centuries the Nguni tribes of which the Zulu are part were on a general migration from the north. It is a misconception that Zulus or in fact Xhosas were indiginous to South Africa. The Khoi San (bushmen for those that don't know) occupied the region for far longer and are generally acknowledged to have been the "original" inhabitants...but it depends how far back you wanna go....the Nguni's drove the Khoi out of the region, so that today most are only found in the Kalahari area. Then the "honkey flotsam" arrived which I assume to be a reference to South African's of European decent. So the region evolved as has your beloved "King's Head", a generic traditional English pub with its grubby carpets, rude patrons and thick smelly atmosphere...
I think its good to have a variety of different pubs to choose from and having people from different parts of the world come to London and share some of their drinking culture with others...

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

In reply to Stonch. Thanks for the attack on Antipodeans...of which I happen to be one.
I don't think this forum is meant for attacks on groups of people. I find the pub a great place that reflects London's diverse society - I find that it is frequented by not only Antipodeans but Europeans too. Whilst it can be very busy and that is frustrating at times, it is an indictment of its popularity which demonstrates that your view is a minority one.
