The Railway Tavern, Liverpool Street
So so pub. A generally friendly atmosphere amongst the mixture of city workers and tourists who frequent this place, which is unusual for pubs near London stations. Shame about some of the bar stuff though, who are not exactly the friendliest people on the face of this earth. One in particular deserves a prize for her attitude problem. I was in The Railway just before Christmas and she served me a pint of lager in a cracked glass. A piece of glass broke off and I nearly swallowed it. When I returned to the bar to ask for a replacement, the bar maid had vanished but her colleague begrudgingly gave me a replacement - no apology though and the suggestion that I was trying it on even though my lip was clearly bleeding.
I also stopped off there last night on the way home from work (didn't want to after the previous incident but my mate said he would be in there so I decided to give it another try). Unfortunately for me, the same barmaid served me. When I realised that I didn't have enough money on me, I apologised and rushed over to my friend who gave me the extra few pence I needed. I returned to the bar and once again apologised, only to met with a scowl and the words - you bring money when you come to the bar, alright? It's fantastic attitudes like this that result in customers seeking out other pubs, in my case the infinitely superior Lord Aberconway.
