The Stagecoach Inn, Hereford

ON MY FIRST VISIT TO HEREFORD I FOUND THE TIME TO DO SEVEN RATED PUBS AND THE STAGECOACH EDGED OUT LICHFIELD VAULTS AND THE BARREL AS THE THE TOP PUB IN MY BOOK. CHARACTER PUB WITH ATMOSPHERE AND NICELY DISPENSED DOOM BAR AT £2.00 ON EASTER MONDAY 2013.

The Grapes, Hereford

As a Yorkshireman in Hereford for the first time I wasn't disappointed with the much vaunted Barrel or Lichfield Vaults- and I was optimistic when I saw the heritage sign outside the Grapes describing it as a historic inn. What a disappointment inside. Everything of antiquity had evidently been ripped out in the refurb and there were adults talking at the bar with babies in their arms, whilst the bar staff concentrated on serving meals rather than beer. When I was finally served I was overcharged double- price. Okay it was Easter Monday afternoon when the pub could cash-in on families eating- but lets get the basics right, and take down that heritage sign, it surely infringes the trade description act! A real travesty. Mind you I soon cheered up when I discovered the Stage Coach.
