I like a decent beer now and then.

A pub is an excellent venue for a work lunch - it's important to get out of work - even if it's just to sit and read a newspaper with a glass of oj.

I think I had close to the best fillet steak I've ever had in this pub the other day... It's definitely the best fillet steak I've ever had in a pub in England. The beer was pretty good, too.

And my companion had the steak and kidney pudding... she couldn't finish it because it was too big. I finished it. That was the best steak and kidney pudding I've ever had...

The Ringwood 49er was pretty good, too :-)

The building has some character - it's clearly been extended over some centuries. I sat in a snug which was once the entry door and was surrounded by interesting stained glass panels.

I'll be going back to try some more of the food...

The Bell, Waltham St Lawrence

The first time I popped into this pub, I was pleasantly surprised at its charm and simplicity.

We tried the first beer we saw and it was perfect. We tried the other beers and they were perfect. Then the ciders and the perries. Wow. That quick, lunchtime visit turned into a long afternoon and evening.

This pub has the best beer, cider and perry for miles. It also has some pretty good food. The minute steak sandwich was always a favourite... the home made pork pie another.

There's nothing at all wrong with this pub... Sometimes it gets busy and a little difficult but everyone gets served eventually...

Probably my favourite pub in England.

I've had better food in another pub - but this pub still scores a 10 easily because it's a proper pub with character, charm, helpful staff and the all important drink.
