I love trying new beers especially ones from the local micro-brewery's that seem to be springing up everywhere.

Real ales are what I enjoy the most as for me they offer a complexity of flavour that most of the other alcoholic offer (L*ger) is missing.

Pubs are places for, social gathering and levelling, real ale, roaring fires, simple wholesome home cooking and friendly service.

I dislike any of the above done badly:)

Thank you

The Fox and Hounds, Christmas Common

Went to this pub back in 2004 and to be honest after all the hype it received I was very dissapointed. I had a ploughmans lunch, which is so easy to get right except in this case the bread was stale and the cheese was sweaty. Fast Forward now to 2010, we walked on Watlington Hill on New Years Day and decided to give the Top Fox a second chance, it was a decision worth making, I had the Welsh Rarebit to start and the All Day Breakfast, which I really enjoyed. Others had the Butternut Squash Soup and Fish & Chips which were well received too. The condition of the Brakspears Beer was excellent as was the attentitive nature the staff despite the pub being packed. We shall certainly be visiting again :)

The Old Fisherman, Shabbington

I have enjoyed several pints of Greene King IPA at The Old Fisherman, on a hot summers evening, sat down by the river, but had never sampled the delights of their kitchen until tonight.

The food was found to be most agreeable, and much enjoyed by all of us. The lack of pretence of the staff and the premises contributed to an excellent relaxed evening. In South Oxfordshire you can go to some pub / restaurants and pay a fortune for a disappointing evening. Here you pay a reasonable price for excellent food, good surroundings, and attentive staff.

The Amuse Bouche in the form of a lemon sorbet between courses was a very nice touch but I did notice that a lot of the diners - some of us included thought this was a free desert so didn't go on to order some of the excellent puddings that The Old Fisherman had to offer.

Well worth a visit - as for anonymous below, I suggest you try it again, trust me you will not be disappointed!

The Coach & Horses, Ashbourne

Excellent food and beer. I felt sorry for the waitress who had to put up with our rowdy crowd of sales brokers that had just spent the day hiking in the peaks - whoever you are you did a sterling job & thanks for not throwing us out!!

When I revisit the peaks - the Coach and Horses is definitely on the menu!!

A very enjoyable evening!
