Profile information

I enjoy traditional country and market town pubs which are ideally Free Houses, and offer good beer from a well maintained cellar. Combine this with an imaginative menu of fresh food at reasonable prices and friendly efficient service, but without fruit machines, pool tables and juke boxes, and I am in seventh heaven.

The Peacock Inn, Chelsworth

This is a lovely, friendly pub in a picture postcard setting, serving a good pint of beer. The menu is good and the food well presented, but slightly pricy. A nice garden, for those summer days and evenings.
Well worth a visit.

The George, Hadleigh

This is a nice High Street pub that offers a good selection of pub food and a decent pint served by a friendly hard working team. They have a "Buy 1 get 1 Free" meal offer on Mondays and Tuesdays, which is excellent value for money. They have a good size well maintained garden area and covered courtyard for the smokers.

The Gardeners Arms, Cheddar

I visited this pub on 3 August 2007 after reading about it on this site. It was not too easy to find, but it was well worth the effort! My wife and I had a lovely meal of Wild Boar and freshly cooked vegetables, and an excellently cooked Lamb Shank.
The beer was good and the house wine was decidedly drinkable. The service was excellent, the prices were less than I would have expected to pay, and the pub was very busy but not overcrowded. I just wish that I had a local pub as good as this near me in Suffolk.
I`d recommend booking a table in advance.
