The Dalesman Inn, Sedbergh

Don't let dogs in, which is a rather odd business model for a pub in walking country.....

The Sun Inn, Dent

Both pubs in Dent are good, but for me the George and Dragon is marginally the better of the two. Lots of people will disagree, though as the Sun is more of a local, more old fashioned, characterful and lived in. One of the most eclectic ranges of beer I've come across, some of which (er, most) I've never heard of. Quality OK but the Dent beers in the G&D quite a lot better in my view. In particular, I found the beer in the Sun a little on the warm side for me (and this is November). We ate at lunchtime and whilst the food is straightforward pub-grub it was well cooked and tasty. Overall, a good local pub with friendly staff and good service - no complaints

The George And Dragon Hotel, Dent

Both pubs in Dent (the Sun is the other) are good but for me the George and Dragon is marginally the better of the two. It's light, clean and airy with 2 pleasant bars and open fires. We ate at lunchtime (the evening menu is more comprehensive) and the food, although very much pub-grub, is well cooked and presented - the home-made chips are particularly good. Yes, the landlord is a bit forthright, a man of strong views (and language) but I rather took to him. His heart is in the right place and he's genuinely trying to improve the facilities. As the Brewery Tap, you'd expect the beer to be good and you won't be disappointed. There are four or five Dent ales on at any time and all are excellent. Well kept and at the right temperature, well worth a visit
