The Cross Hands Inn, Pilning

They don't come much rougher than this joint. Shame, as it doesn't look too bad from the outside. But you have to be pretty brave to walk in here, if you're not one of the usual drink-driving, banjo playing regulars. Definitely not one to take the family, unless you are related to the above mentioned in some way....

The Masons Arms, Rudgeway

Went here for a quick early evening meal a couple of weeks before Xmas. Had virtually the worst meal of my life! Painfully slow service, filthy tables, my roast chicken with roast potatoes, chipolata & veg was a disgrace - having taken a mouthful of the luke warm chicken & looked at the appallingly shrivelled veg & totally absent roast spuds, I quietly requested a replacement. The smarmy "manager" came out & declared that he didn't understand what my problem was & they had "ripped" my chicken apart/ tested it & found it hot enough. Anyway, he begrudgingly agreed to replace my meal (it wasn't like I was trying to get 2 meals for 1 or a free scoff, just a replacement). The second meal was piping hot - so hot the micro-waved carrots (I think that's what the brownish orangey wrinkly pointy things were) were still cooking & almost on a point of spontaneously-combusting, grand total of 2 tiny roast spuds & well, guess I missed my chance to nab the chipolata first time round, cos that had vanished (perhaps it had vaporised). Manager popped out to check - I mentioned the above, he huffed & walked off, as if to say I was being fussy. Disgraceful. Couldn't tell you what the beer's like.

The White Hart, Littleton on Severn

This Pub used to be well known for it's good food, but since it changed hands in 07, it's really gone down hill. Years ago there was a brilliant Varied menu, with fruity main salads, fab pies & allsorts of unusual tasty things, with church candles & fresh flowers always on the tables, then it changed hands, the food became expensive & poncey, & the church candles replaced with T-lights. But now with the most recent owners, there's No flowers or candles, and the things we fancied on the standard unchanging menu were sold out. Neither the sausage or liver meals that we had came with Any veg and left us (normal appetites) starving and pretty empty in the wallet department too! This once offered an outstanding & good value menu, now it's just bland & overpriced.

The beer is still good.
