I heard the news last night, I wish Niall and Linda all the very best for the future and want to thank them for all the memories they have given me over the last 30 plus years. Hopefully "The Pony" will retain its atmosphere and it's clientele, as real pubs with real characters such as those that frequent it are very few and far between.

The White Hart, Sherfield on Loddon

What on earth has happened to this establishment ? 20 years ago the beer was good, the food was excellent and the atmosphere comfortable. 5 years ago the beer was adquate (more often than not), the food was edible (generally) and the atmosphere plastic. I've visited again in the last fortnight - I can't comment on the food, after the previous offering I decided to give it a body swerve. The beer left more than a little to be desired. But the atmosphere..........A manager who's approach would curdle milk, all drinks poured like lager or cider - from height and without thought of the end result. Earwigging the locals it sounded as though the only reason they drank there was that it was the lesser of two evils, there only being 2 pubs in the village. This pub needs to pull it's socks up or it will end up as another extension to a Premier Inn.
