The Red Lion, Kenninghall

A lovely pub, directly opposite the church. Although I am not a beer drinker, I heard other visitors finding the selection to their liking. Cheap soft drinks and lovely food. I ate there 3 times during my holiday. The menu is small, but the food is locally sourced and delicious.

They have a main bar, a snug (which allows dogs) and a medium-sized restaurant. Food is served on modern plates, but you eat with old sterling silver cutlery. I can heartily recommend their garlic mushrooms, steak which was always cooked to perfection as well as being of excellent quality, interesting side salads, lovely baked potatoes. In fact, I only ever saw clean plates, because unlike other pubs in the area, they don't give you a serving that could feed a family of 6!

The staff are friendly and attentive and the loos are immacuate! Who coud want for more.

Alfold Barn, Alfold

Went again on last Sunday in August 2007 with another friend. Yet again, superb food and service. We decided to share a starter and they plated them up on separate plates. Chocolate pot pudding was NOT shared and my friend, who is vegetarian, had the best veg hotpot she had ever tasted - true praise.

Have yet to go again, but will be there soon.

The Queen Victoria, Shalford

Had rung The Seahorse to find out their opening times 2 days' before and then turned up to find them closed with the builders in. Huh! Par for the course with that one. So, change of plan and we met at this pub.

Despite its appearance, we had a reasonably-priced, well-cooked lunch and although we were not beer drinkers, coffee was no problem, and the landlord was polite, efficient and friendly.

The locals founds us interesting - three ladies wot were lunching!

Huge potential and going the right way about it.
