Is it a pub? is it a restaurant? Well its neither, it fails in both respects. The food is fine if you want a slab of fried meat and chips, but at restaurant prices I'd expect more in the way of service and refinements. I had the risotto which was more like rice pudding with peas and frankly very disappointing. Only one waitress and one bar person for a nearly full dining room meant the service was slow and unsatisfactory. So the food is adequate for a pub, but not nearly what I'd expect from a restaurant, but as a pub its lacking in atmosphere and space for those not dining. Plus a poor selection of beer.

The Cyder House Inn, Shackleford

Its a nice pub with a simple menu and reasonable beer. However if you fancy an evening out I can't recommend. A simple menu relies on perfect cooking and good flavours, we (3) had lamb shank off the specials board and the lamb was obviously reheated, dry and flavourless. The mash was good, but the gravy despite looking the part had absolutely no depth or flavour, the side order of veg was reminiscent of school dinners. Judging by other reviews we were unlucky, but a good pub/restaurant needs to be consistent. The managers comment that the shank was eating well at lunchtime didn't really compensate for the fact that it was very poor in the evening. Standards gentlemen!
