The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden

A glimpse up at the hundreds of pump clips on the ceiling will instantly show you that this is a serious ale house. In the two or so years that Danny has hosted The Stathhmore he has featured a large range of ales from all over the country, a forever changing feast of tastes, strengths and colours. A fine location (ignoring the low flying planes on thier flightpath to Luton Airport)set in Herdfordshires rolling contryside, it is a nice place to while away a summers afternoon whilst supping a fine ale or two or three (hopefully the missus will drive me home!)

The Lytton Arms, Knebworth

What a shame. Used to be a first rate pub with an amusing well respected landlord and a good bar manager that new his ales and how to keep them. Walls that once where adorned with local history are now replaced with chinzy pictures and the mock mantelpiece over the original brick fireplace is a travisty. I used to love this pub but along with the refit they ripped out the heart as well. Staff who really don't care and hold no knowledge of the wares they sell will eventually serve you. The views are still magnificent but this pub has changed beyond all recognition. What a shame!

The Half Moon, Hitchin

Wow! what a change, well deserves a visit. The beer is always top form and their festivals have a fine range of well conditioned beers. Howard and Wendy host a warm and friendly atmosphere and a fine bunch of regulars make the place feel inviting, very easy to get into a conversation with a complete stranger!
If you want a fine ale in Hitchen then the Half Moon should be your first port of call
