The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

This is a good pub. Very pleasant hepful staff. Good atmosphere apart from the inevitable AND COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY AND UNWANTED BACKGROUND MUSIC. Why do all pubs have to play music for the benefit of the bar staff? What are the chances of the bar staff having the same musical taste as each individual in the pub? Answer = no chance, so turn it off and please us all.
Food is good but a bit too grand for a pub and therefore it's a bit expensive; it's definitely worth the money, but a pub doesn't need the food to be too grand. A pub is a place where you want to be able to eat 2 or 3 times a week, not once a month.

The Rose and Crown, Beckley

This is a brilliant pub. It's the only real pub for miles around, in fact, I don't know where there is another proper old pub like this.
Pub food such as cold meat with bubble and squeak or stews or ham,egg & chips - none of this pretentious overpriced gastro rubbish. Thank the Lord for Alice the landlady. Excellent beers too.
