Profile information

Been in the hospitality industry since I was 17 so I do know a few things about this. I was a chef until recently when I moved to Front of House and started running a little pub owned by the same chap who owns The Rosebud in Brightlingsea. Come and try The New Inn in Colchester - a proper local boozer with ever changing real ales...

The New Inn, Colchester

Well then. I am back for another review!!!

The New Inn is still a cracking little pub, and still open seven days a week, from midday till eleven on Monday till Thursday, and again Saturday. Friday it is open until midnight, and sunday it closes at half ten.

The real ales are even better now as the Landlord has placed a sixth beer engine on the bar! Blooming Marvellous!!! Eagle IPA from Wells & Young is still the house ale, and the other five are all locally sourced from micro-breweries. And the landlord also brews his own beer which is on tap whenever possible!

And the bestest news yet; they now do food Wednesday to Saturday, and a brilliant lunch on Sunday/ not an Aunt Bessie Yorkie in sight. The food is extremely well priced, the weekly menu is all below 7.00 for a very generous portion of home cooked food, and the Sunday lunch is a pawltry 6.50 for a huge plate of food! I challenge anyone to walk away unsatiated...

All in all this is a cracking little pub; live music, real fires, perfect ales, fantastic selection of Single Malt Whisky, superb wine list, and free parking.

What more could you want...??

The New Inn, Colchester

And the truth about the last review. The couple that took over from the previous manager were diabolical. The beer was very badly kept, the place was not looked after properly and the ambiance was awful. In the two months they were there they almost killed the pub. Thank God the original landlord is back. The beer is back on top form (now there are 5 beer engines) and changing very quickly, so the chance of a dud beer has gone, unlike before!

All I can say is they were awful people and totally wrong for the pub, any pub. The damage they caused was inexcusable. If they cause The New Inn to miss out on the good beer guide this year there will be quite a few people baying for blood...
