The London Stone, Cannon Street

About 15 of us turn up for the Christmas Dinner. My friend is told that we can have anything from the menu except for the turkey dinner and the chocolate cake. What the hell is the point in a Christmas Dinner if you can't have turkey?

My first course is advertised as a prawn cocktail with marie rose sauce and 2 slices of brown bread. What I got was a few prawns smothered in mashed up potato salad wrapped in a bit of salmon. Served with white bread. No sauce. A bit of a shambles but not too bad.

Main course was two pieces of over-cooked cold razor-thin slices of beef and a few roast potatoes served with a red wine sauce which had the consistency of water. A bit grim really

Dessert was a frozen solid block of what was allegedly roulade.

And the fourth course was coffee and a mince pie - the coffee looked and tasted like dishwater and they were out of mince pies.

Other people there had other issues with whatever they ordered. One of my friends got her vegetarian option whilst the rest of us were have desserts. She also had to take the orders for everyone as the staff were unavailable to do this!

4 courses for 15 quid. Absolutely tragic really, the worst venue I've ever had the misfortune of eating in. Don't go there to eat.

The Devonshire Arms, Camden

I can't think of anything better than "a pub where every one dresses the same, likes the same music, is the same age". It means you can go in there and you're guaranteed to have something in common with everyone in there, meaning you can pretty much talk to anyone knowing they'll be on the same wavelength as you are, enjoy the same music, go to the same clubs etc.

It seems to be called The Fox and Firkin again now? The Friday alternative night seems to have gone now too.
