The Castle Inn Hotel, Lydford

We visited the Castle Inn in January and it is a lovely little pub, what it is like in the summer season you can only guess at. The bar is small with low ceilings and a large open fire. The food is good without being to fancy, we ate in the bar but there is also a dedicated restaurant room to the right of the main entrance. It is a St Austell brewery pub with the usual beers on tap there is also a draught cider, Cornish I think. We had the HSD as we love it and it did not disappoint. The locals were friendly although there accents led me to believe they were not all that local.

Hope and Anchor Inn, Hope Cove

The Hope and Anchor is a typical seaside pub, in other words very little atmosphere. It caters for large amounts of tourist serving both food and drink. The Friday evening we were there it was not particularly busy. We had no problem being served as these establishments usually have plenty of staff. Not service with a smile mind you, the boys and girls behind the bar haven�t any time for a personality.
The St.Austell breweries Proper Job and Tribute were both drinkable but I am afraid indistinguishable from each other. The third pint I had was Dartmoor IPA a much better offering than the two St.Austells beers. We didn�t have anything to eat, instead preferring the smart little restaurant next door on the Saturday.

The Anchor, Seatown

The location is wonderful, if eating outside the views are fantastic. The pub itself is tired and the outside tables do not get enough (or any) attention in between customers. The toilets are barely adequate. When we were there the ladies were smelly. The staff are friendly and quick. The food was nothing exceptional , our first plate of whitebait was severed with a very large hair in it. The ploughman�s, described as �The ultimate ploughman�s� was tasty but not over generous in size. Overall a disappointing experience.
