The Barley Mow, Mayfair

We had a terrible night here last night.

It's with a heavy heart that I write this because I've been here before and had a good time in what is a lovely looking pub. But the management should be ashamed of how their staff acted yesterday.

We arrived while the football was on the TV. I was stood at the bar waiting to give my mate a hand with beers. Playing to a bunch of blokes watching the footy, the barman started giving me sarcastic comments about not having a beer. I only been in there 30 seconds and was helping my mate. Not a big deal but you don't expect a lot of sh*t when you've just arrived and you're about to spend money.

The pub advertises how it serves food all day. When we tried to get food at 7pm (on a Saturday), we were told the kitchen was closed, with a shrug of the shoulders.

We spent about 20 on a round and asked for a glass of water. The barwoman said she couldn't give us water because the 'tap was broken'. I said they were legally obliged to give us water. She tutted. We got our drinks and asked if there was a chance we could get water. She said she would have to get some from upstairs. Only after serving the next customer. About half an hour later, the charming barman came up with water, looking like we'd insulted him.

My girlfriend got drinks. Unknown to her, the barman undercharged her. So came upstairs demanding more money off her. Not asking. Or apologising for his mistake. But demanding as if she'd tried to trick him.

After the footy finished, the pub cleared. At 9pm there must have been only about 15 people in there. Saturday night near Oxford St. No surprise people don't want to drink there. So rude. Disgraceful.
