The Toll Gate, Hornsey

I found this pub to be pretty average at best. It IS typical Wetherspoons despite what anyone else here says. In terms of it "not being the best pub in North London", that's a bit of an understatement. It's not the best pub in N8, it's not the best on Turnpike Lane!
Beer not very good, stick to bottled. Landlord and barstaff not overly friendly either.
Keep walking...

The Hope and Anchor, Hornsey

This is what a pub should be like. Good Guinness, very friendly and welcoming landlord and landlady. Very good home-cooked food. Plenty of things going on, Quiz Night, Chess Night, Pool Night, Founder Member of local pool competition. Themed nights, it has the lot.
Very friendly regulars (on the whole!). Mike_D is right when he says that it's here and the Harringay Arms. That's it for N8. Avoid the pubs local to this, it gets very 'hicks-ville' in all the others.
A Liverpool pub, but they are welcome of EVERYONE here, Plenty of friendly banter. Been coming for years and there's never a ' dodgy atmosphere'.
For football, nowhere better, as long as you get there early enough. If not you'll be in the standing room only area, but the atmosphere is electric on big games.
My favourite pub.

The Hornsey Tavern, Hornsey

Can't drink the draught beer in here. I drink bottled - safer choice by far. A bit 'American Werewolf' really. Unfriendly landlord and regulars. 'The Hope & Anchor' nearby is a much safer bet all round.
