Last Plantagenet, Leicester

“RUDE STAFF AND WE WERE BARRED WHEN WE COMPLAINED” 1 of 5 stars

At 70 years of age, I have only ever been barred from 2 pubs, this one and "The Ale Wagon" in Charles Street Leicester and in both cases for the same reason, complaining about bar staff who lack manners, staff who are in fact aggressive and just plain rude.
The Last Plantagenet is one of 4 Wetherspoons chain pubs in Leicester, the others are "The Highcross", "Lloyds" and there is one at Oadby too, "Lord Keeper of the Great Seal". I have used them all as they have cheap beer and cheap drinks in general, all 4 are within 3 miles of where I live. I seldom eat at any as the food is far too hit and miss between good at the price and having to send it back. Food is often cold on arrival, chips under cooked and hard inside, fried eggs not fried properly, incinerated medium rare steaks and often too tough to eat, quality generally poor, I will leave it at that.
Getting back to talking about just "The Last Plantagenet", named after the last Plantagenet King, Richard III, now buried in Leicester cathedral, it is the quietist least busy of the 4 mentioned venues. It is also arguable the least attractive too and suffers badly from chewing gum being stuck under various places, like tables and especially the hand rails leading to and from the toilets. The choice of beers and single malts is very good and slightly better perhaps than the others venues with slightly cheaper prices.
The cheaper prices also tend too attract some rather odd clientele, I don't want to say too much as I want my review published, but "down and outs" is a fair description.
As for the barring of both myself and my wife, my group of loyal companions also will refuse to go there, as there are 3 other Wetherspoons to visit plus dozens of other pubs too, it is not so much a hardship, BUT IS A GROSS INJUSTICE.
The barmaid was quite snappy and rude to my wife for no reason, I intervened and explained this to her, she seemed satisfied but I was not so I complained firstly to the manageress and got nowhere let alone getting an apology, so I complained through head office customer services, the result was we were both barred, even though the manageress stated CCTV footage showed I had behaved perfectly decently, at age 70 I am hardly a lager lout or hooligan and neither is my wife. If you visit then you have been warned !!!

The Ale Wagon, Leicester

If you like real beer and ill mannered bar staff then this is the place to go.The pub is owned by the 2 Hoskins brothers and their sister, she in particular is surly at best and can be hostile and aggressive, the brothers are just plain odd and antisocial. When I complained about her rudeness,I was barred, not that I would have returned anyway. This is the first and only time I have ever been barred from a pub,or anywhere else for that matter.GOOD BEER,AWFUL SERVICE,YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.RATINGS BEER = 8,SERVICE = 0,SO AVERAGE = 4.Big christoph
