The Crane, Basildon

This is a little pub in the middle of a housing estate. Its also one of the oldest pubs in the area.
The beer is reasonable, but the consistency in its regulars leaves you feeling left out and intimidated. If however you manage to pass the Basildonion chav test, then this place can feel like a second living room.

The Castlemayne, Basildon

This pub is famous for its live music, and the music is good.
The beer is hit and miss, and at times when there is no music (most of the time) the bar lacks atmosphere, and feels a little intimidating.

Don't go expecting a great pint, or even a passable ale. But considering other Basildon pubs, the on-stage targets mean you are less likely to be one.
