The Prince Regent, Marylebone

Following a recent after work visit I feel compelled to revisit my earlier post -the management has now changed and unfortunately things aren't so good. A group of us came in after work one busy evening and were tutted at, shoved past and glared at by the bar staff for being in the way. It was busy and we were merry but we were all behaving perfectly reasonably. If our being there was creating a problem then a polite request to stand out of the way or even to go somewhere else, as we were a big group, would have been fine rather than rolling their eyes at each other in full view of us. The fact that one member of staff told one of our party that unless specified they automatically pour people the most expensive version of whatever spirit they ask for was the last straw. I'll be avoiding this place in future - it's a pub and the staff need to remember that.

This is our after work local. We stopped coming here after a few years as it had become samey and a bit like every other semi-gastro place in town. We tried again more recently though and it is a completely different place. The Manager has a really good team of bar staff who are friendly, fast, attentive and polite. There is a good selction of ales, lagers, spirits and wines and they don't seem to run out of anything. The food is fair to good and it has a much improved atmosphere. We're in there all the time now!

This pub is in a nice spot for a few drinks in the sun after work, it also has a good sized downstairs area for the winter months so its a good all year round place. The Thai food is great and very good value. Unfortunately the one thing which lets it down is the bar staff. The manager is a really nice chap, good to chat to etc, but the barmaids are mostly rude, surly and pay no attention to who is next in line. when I was last there I got a lager shandy with soda water instead of lemonade and when I returned it to the bar it was taken away, replaced and then slammed back on the bar in front of me without a word being said. They could certainly do with some customer services skills training. Aside from that, don't let it put you off too much as its a well placed pub with a good selection of ales and lagers.
