The Queens Head, Cranford

This is a friendly Fuller's local where you will always find a well-kept pint. Freda's home-cooked Sunday lunches are among the best I have sampled and very good value. There's a quiet garden for when the warmer weather arrives.

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

Went to this pub with my wife and two teenage daughters (both more glamorous than I) for a pre-theatre meal at 6:15pm and we were turned away by two big bouncers outside. Very civilized! If the service inside is as good as that outside I would advise giving this establishment a miss. There is nothing on their website to advise about this selective door policy, which was humiliating to say the least.
