The Plough Inn, Henfield

Was last in this pub about three years ago and asked my partner whether the women's toilets were as filthy as the men's, which stank and was flooded.
Having recently dropped in one midweek evening for a quick drink, guess what? The men's toilet is STILL flooded and stinking, as is the nearby carpet in the bar.
God knows what the kitchen must be like - the only food I'd eat there would be crisps.

The Eddy, Brighton

AVOID!! Reviews elsewhere speak highly of the Sunday roasts but my advice would be don't go near the place later in the evening.
I'd seen an acoustic music night advertised and went to check it out with my girlfriend, who is partial to a bit of folk.
We wanted to support the bunch of earnest musicians but everything was ruined because of the leery drunks at the bar f-ing and c-ing at the top of their voices. The bar staff did nothing - and even continued to serve one pisshead who crashed off his stool in an obvious drunken stupor.
We were sitting at the back near the toilets and feared for our lives when some of them stumbled past us, presumably to be sick.
We lasted about half an hour and made a quick exit, only to be confronted by the same behaviour outside by the same low life who were now shouting down the neighbourhoood whilst smoking and chucking dog ends all over the place.

The Bridge Inn, Shoreham by Sea

Been there a few times in the past just for the views from the garden but had crap food, beer & service so was pleasantly surprised to go in by chance a few weeks ago to find a music festival in full swing. The place was packed & buzzing so stayed, got hungry & had a great fish meal (served by some VERY pretty waitresses!) The beer was good & would happily have stayed longer & got pissed but was driving.

Got chatting to some of the locals who said the new landlady had really turned things around - which seems at odds with some of the comments below.

Even worse now that the brewery has allowed a foul mouthed aggressive drunk to take charge. These companies beggar belief.

The Lord Nelson, Brighton

A good old fashioned town centre pub, refreshingly free of spivs, chavs and builders. It does the basics well: looks after the real ales and serves hearty (if unadventurous)food. If only more places would stick to this formula rather than going down the gastropub route, with overpriced wines and poncey, new age menus.

There is occasional live music with an especially good monthly folk session, so I'm told.

The Harbour View, Portslade

It's obviously changed for the better since the last review. There is a decent, mixed-age clientele and there was a great atmosphere when I went in after seeing an ad in the paper for live music. There was some guy singing Irish songs and it was pretty busy.

The Harveys bitter seemed to have been looked after OK but most were drinking lager.

The Victoria, Portslade

One of the few pubs where you can hear an Irish singer & watch football at the same time - bizarre but enjoyable.

The Good Companions, Brighton

It used to be a great place, with a mixed clientele and fantastic wood panelling but the new owners have ruined it by painting over it.

The chav barmaids are surly and only talk to other chavs. What a waste.
