The Lamb Inn, Sutton

New Landlord has wrested the pub from the talons of Punch Taverns so now it is a free house, under the name of The Sutton Gamekeeper. It is excellent. He has totally refurbished it and employed an astounding chef. The team working there are keen and efficient; they genuinely care about visitors' experience. Highly recommended: it is NOT cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. Thing is, as well as being an excellent eating place, it is also a super place to pop in for a beer, with a great atmosphere in the true meaning of a traditional 'proper' pub. Well done James - I for one am highly impressed. Keep it up and I truly wish you every success.

The Hanging Gate, Sutton

Popped in for a beer last night. Seemed like a good landlord and the staff were very pleasant. Didn't eat, but a friend had and really enjoyed it. Said it was excellent value too. Am going for a second opinion tonight.

The Wharf, Macclesfield

Excellent pub. Very well kept beers, and always a good range. Landlord is one of the bet in the town - an absolutely super, diligent host. Great staff, and often live music. Well worth a visit.

Not a bad boozer at all. Landlord and landlady are sound. Beer well kept, and food currently is spot-on. Good for early doors, and a few nice sofas for drawn-out evenings.

St Dunstan Inn, Macclesfield

Super young couple have now bought it as a free house. They haven't changed much, and have integrated with the community. Beer is good, and atmosphere great. Current pub of choice in the Langley area!

The Hanging Gate, Sutton

Changed hands a fortnight ago. New tenants opened a couple of days ago. Will go in and check it out and report later. Still maybe a little early, so please read whatever I say keeping in mind that they won't have had chance to settle in yet!

The Rose and Crown Inn, Allgreave

Due to reopen soon, having been bought by Ian and Luda from the Hanging Gate nearby. Will be interesting to see how it fares as a free house.

New landlord (Ben) took the pub over December 2010. Expect more live music and jam sessions. Good luck, I wish him well.

Beer better kept now, and has a community atmosphere. Wish the new landlord all the best; it's obvious he genuinely cares about the place and is determined to give it his best shot.

Well after visiting the place quite a few times, it appears that the more critical reviews are correct - they've made a right sodding hash of it.
It may have helped if they had actually moved in, rather than commuting from Oldham to open. Closing Mon-Thurs and only opening Friday 7 - 10 wasn't the shrewdest idea.
I understand the landlady is ill, but she was before they took the place; what were they thinking? On speaking with him, he appears to be an idiot, complete with vacant wide-eyed naive gawp, like a child gazing at a fairground goldfish. I've not even heard of a decent pint there - all the ones I've had have been shite and the food was laughable... if you were observing other victims that it. Cut your losses and leave now. Do not pass 'Go'. Do not collect 200.

Interesting to note that all of the positive reviews have been made by people who have joined BITE shortly before reviewing, and have never written any review about any other pub before or since. Call me cynical, but I think that more than a little suspicious.

Great traditional pub. Free pool. Guest ales.
Nice beer garden at back, over looking the stream, playing fields and Tegsnose Country park.
They don't do food, but Richard the landlord keeps a collection of takeaway menus behind the bar. He phones, they deliver and he provides cutlery and even washes up after you! What a great idea - Chinese banquets, pizzas watching football, or just a proper ruby murray for two with a decent pint.
Gets my vote.
