Rose and Crown, Bury St Edmunds

The Rose & Crown in one of the only real pubs still around, the landlord and landlady are the longest serving in Bury, and as such expect something old skool. Real ale is the key at this pub, yes they serve lager and spirits, but you really come here for a real good pint.
Ok the beer is Greene King, but the new tenanted guest ale choice does mean they should sell something that isn't made by GK! They also have teams that play crib, darts and dominoes and there is always people around who are willing to play a game with you. They serve food at lunch, but do not think gastro think pub grub!
THe best pint in Bury!

The Plough Inn, Icklingham

Worth a visit if you want to see moody staff, an angry chef and people being kicked out for the weirdest of reasons!
It must be noted that on some nights none of the above happens, but quite often it does!
Like the other pub in the village The Plough is also a Free House, more of a restaurant than a pub though!

The Red Lion, Icklingham

Since our last visit this pub has become a free house, and as it has served Greene King beer for over 200 years, they have now decided to stock a different range of real ales.
When we visited there was Woodfordes 'Wherry', Adnams 'Broadside' & Mauldons 'Silver Adder'. We also noticed Aspall Cyder on draft and Bitburger Pils on draft, as well as a brand new wine list.
The pub was busy with drinkers outside and people eating inside, worth booking regardless of the day of the week, dart board in the back bar was also nice to see!

The phone number for this pub listing is wrong, it should be (01638) 711 698
We can confirm that the pub is under new management and so far things are going well for the new hosts.

Things are changing here on a regular basis, since we have been there the wine list has grown and so has the size of the menu! Things here are done fresh to order, and the young chef/owner changes the menu every 3/4 weeks.

Worth a try.
