The Pack O Cards Inn, Combe Martin

visited in April while staying in Combe Martin and was suitably impressed to return for seconds, unusual looking place that looks like it's had a few add ons over the years, i can't actually remember what i was drinking but it must have been okay, i think they may serve some of the st Austell range

27 Jul 2017 22:21

Admiral Collingwood, Ilfracombe

was there at the beginning of April and it was very busy on the two occasions i visited, very modern building in a good way and decent service etc and the usual range of JDW fare

27 Jul 2017 22:16

Pier Hotel, Ilfracombe

went in April hoping to try some of wizards brews but unfortunately they didn't have any ????
i can't remember what i did have but the place was nice enough, we didn't go back for the rest of the week so it didn't really leave any impression

27 Jul 2017 22:10

The Taproom, Woolwich

Great beer as you'd expect from a tap room, full range of Woolwich's own Hop Stuff ales and some lovely pizzas, some decent places to drink now in Woolwich with the Gate house now open, might make the Dial Arch pull their socks up as I think they'd started to think of them self's as the only place in Woolwich and take their custom for granted

23 Dec 2016 23:39

The Green Dragon Inn, Stoke Fleming

I've just re-read my last post and probably didn't do this place justice, I really liked it and "Mrs Fawlty " but my wife didn't for some reason, so only visited once in our two week visit in July 2015, I can't remember what i drank, though must have been perfectly good, i do recall ordering a double malt whiskey not realizing they do 50 ml measures, and the wild boar sausages where lovely

23 Dec 2016 23:24

The Green Dragon Inn, Stoke Fleming

Very nice place, preferred Radius 7

11 Aug 2016 13:25

Bonhommes Bar, Filey

The foodie revolution doesn't appear to have hit this part of north East Yorkshire yet, although this was probably one of the better places in the area as its the only place we visited twice

11 Aug 2016 13:20

Great Harry, Woolwich

Although there are now some really good places to eat and drink in Woolwich I still love it here for its great range of craft beers ales bottled beer and spirits, it is what it is but I still like a Sunday lunch time with the boys, and the foods always been decent whenever I've eaten there, sometimes pop in with Mrs after a night out, but usually only go in there with the chaps

11 Aug 2016 13:05

The Bluffs, Hayle

This is much better than when I first visited in 2001 when the only redeeming feature was the location and wonderful view over the bay, the staff are very good the food is reasonably descent, didn't try the ales as they serve a decent pint of rattler, but others seemed to be having it, hobgoblin and doom bar I think, also estrella lager looked good and was very popular, there's a nice kids play area and amusements with great views across the bay, someone has obviously realised that if ran well a lot more people would use it, nice place to take the kids

11 Aug 2016 12:51

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

Still the best in the area, back in Hayle after a few years away, the HSD is always tops, very well kept, great home cooked food and a lovely pint of rattler cider, the landlord seems to have gone on a charm offensive since I first went in 2001 when his father still ran it, when he was a bit on the gruff side, been a family run business for generations

11 Aug 2016 12:38

The Red Lion, Snargate

Haven't been here for a few years as it's rather a long way from Woolwich and very remote, but a really brilliant place, so like many was really sorry to hear of Doris's passing, as the last guy said "you hope some things never change" I hope her daughter keeps the tradition going and people from all over the country continue to visit, unique

11 Aug 2016 11:37

The Windjammer, Dartmouth

I think this pub must have gone downhill a bit since the last review, gone are all the flowers on the out side and the interior is really scruffy with split upholstery on most of the chairs and just a general need for a refurb, we where in mid July and there were only about 8 people in total, and we probably would have gone else where if it wouldn't have looked so obvious, having said that we took a chance and the food and ale were both perfectly acceptable, but it lacked atmosphere and the rickety furniture was not too comfortable

7 Aug 2015 17:50

The Star Inn, Crowlas

if this pub was in London it would be packed out, and he'd have to expand his brewery, this is an ale lovers paradise, absolute gem, usually reasonably quiet as they don't do food

19 Jun 2015 16:59

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

I've always found this to be the best in the area, great olde world place, great ales HSD, I've not been for a couple of years, but it's been run by the same family for years and they've kept the standard consistently high, the food is far and away the best in the area in my opinion but be prepared to wait at busy times as it's all freshly prepared

19 Jun 2015 16:50

Watermill Inn, Lelant

great place, one of the best in the area,

19 Jun 2015 16:35

The Manor Hotel, Datchet

great location, but a bit shabby, we stayed in one of there boutique rooms, I think they miss-spelled cupboard, and as the previous post says apart from weddings it didn't seem to get much local custom, and with just one other pub in the village you can make your own mind up as to why

19 Jun 2015 16:24

Woolwich Equitable, Woolwich

tried this place about six months ago when it first opened, it was early evening and fairly empty and the kitchens were not up and running yet so they weren't serving any food yet and it still smelt a bit of fresh paint, great range of beers but at £5.10 a pint pretty steep for Woolwich, with Spoons just across the green unless your with a lady or feeling really flush I'd probably choose spoons for all it's faults, I've not been back since but it always seems reasonably busy, so I'll probably give it another try at some point, Run by the Antic group and set in the massive old imposing Woolwich equitable building

19 Jun 2015 14:00

Lighthouse Inn and Restaurant, Capel le Ferne

more a hotel bar than a pub, popped in after a walk from Folkestone, okay for a quick stop over but didn't feel particularly welcoming as we were the only people in the bar

18 Jun 2015 16:52

The Bull, Woolwich

up and running again, saw hurling advertised the other day so I presume it's still Irish themed

18 Jun 2015 13:55

Ye Olde Pump House, Hastings

went in Easter Sunday with the Mrs, the place was rammed as were all the pubs in Hastings, they stopped serving food just after our order as it was so busy, seemed like a decent enough place, the food and ale were okay, and I'd like to go back when it's not as busy

18 Jun 2015 13:38

The Ship Inn, Sandgate

popped in a couple of times since my last post, well worth a visit, certainly wasn't disappointed with the range and quality of the ales on offer, the real ciders great if you dare, I think it was about 8% so not recommended if you stop off for a couple on your seaside walk from Folkestone, unless you get a cab back,
nice little area at the back on the sea front, food also very good, not the cheapest place but well worth it

18 Jun 2015 13:31

The Bull, Woolwich

not seen any activity in here for the last couple of weeks, not sure if it's closed down or undergoing a refurb or what

10 Dec 2014 12:54

The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

Lovely little pub tucked away just off Maize Hill, previous good reviews are a good indication of this fine old pub

9 Dec 2014 17:00

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

been in here a few times over the years and always found it a decent enough place for a few pints, always served promtly even when it's busy, which is always a bonus in a spoons establishment

9 Dec 2014 16:43

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

I'd agree this is now set up for food, but it still has a good range of beers and a great location on the river

9 Dec 2014 16:33

The Cricketers, Greenwich

now a Goddards pie&mash shop

9 Dec 2014 16:30

Swan Inn, Weymouth

used this spoons most evenings when visiting Weymouth, decent food, beer and service, would definitely use it again

8 Dec 2014 14:51

Dial Arch, Woolwich

seems a bit hit and miss here, was in Friday night for fish & chips after a decent meal the week before and unfortunately this time it was rubbish, the place was very busy and the beer and atmosphere where good, but at the prices they charge you expect better, seems like they take there customers for granted as the food really was appalling, and at £11 for fish & chips it's not cheep

8 Dec 2014 10:21

The New Inn, Amroth

not really impressed when I visited, decent pint of Rev James, food was served about two mins after ordering, ding, set up for tourists, not as good as the pubs in Saundersfoot, Laugharne and Pendine

25 Nov 2014 14:48

The Powder Monkey, Greenwich

now Goddards pie & mash shop

25 Nov 2014 14:36

Culver Haven Inn, Sandown

We'll worth a drive up the hill even if you have to wait for the cows to clear the road, very friendly great location, we'll kept ales and good home cooked food, easily my favourite on the southern corner of the island where we were staying

18 Nov 2014 10:50

The Propeller Inn, Bembridge Airport

Was pleasantly surprised by this place, looks a bit tatty from outside but has a good feel once your In, I think the food depends on who's cooking as it wasn't up to scratch on my second visit, beer and service good though and quite an interesting little museum type display in one of the corners, we'll worth a visit

18 Nov 2014 10:46

The Crab and Lobster, Bembridge

Was in here October last year, nice pub decent beer and food, and probably a good vibe usually, this was rather spoilt by a lady celebrating her 40th, to say she was loud and foul mouthed would be an understatement, she must have been a local as anyone else would have been ejected, I'm from Southeast London so not easily shocked

18 Nov 2014 10:39

The Chichester Arms, Mortehoe

Rather disappointing on my last visit, seems to be more set up for food now, which I found pretty average

18 Nov 2014 10:31

The Princess Alice, West Thamesmead

not the greatest, the unsavory element may be to do with it's vicinity to the Crown court and Bellmarsh prison over the road, first port of call if you've just been released or acquited

17 Nov 2014 20:18

Great Harry, Woolwich

RIP Percy, I'll miss our Sunday lunchtimes

17 Nov 2014 19:55

The Two Chairmen, Trafalgar Square

This is my works local, or it was till the Admiralty opened, I've always preferred The Lord Moon, and the Admiralty seems pretty good, but then again I'd rather go to St James's park with a can of Special Brew as I've never liked this pub

13 Nov 2014 19:37

Great Harry, Woolwich

Lively mixture of locals, great beer at best prices, went in Tuesday night after trying the new Antic pub across the square and it was buzzing, the new range of craft beers are tops, the new pub across the square is very nice and a good choice of beers but at £5.10 for a lovely pint of Brooklyn beer is even dearer than the Dial Arch so it's a no brainier

13 Nov 2014 19:04

Sir Walter Raleigh, East Budleigh

Great beer, lovely food, friendly landlord and locals, lovely old pub and location, I couldn't fault it on my visits

13 Nov 2014 18:52

The Cambrian Hotel, New Quay

bit of a strange atmosphere in here, but the food and ales were good, Wainewrights was the regular and a rotating guest, one from the channel isles was on when I was in, nice enough place, but as i've said a bit of a strange buzz

2 Aug 2013 12:22

The Black Lion, New Quay

just back from New Quay and used this pub quite a lot whilst there, lovely beer garden over looking the harbour, very busy possibly due to the really nice weather, but seemed to attract lots of locals as well as us tourists, the regular ale was Doom bar, but they also served a regularly rotating local guest ale, both the ones I tried where very good(Blodwyn & Purple Moose) the food and service where also good

2 Aug 2013 12:15

The Castle Tavern, Woolwich

noticed in the local paper that the landlord has just received a noise abatement notice for playing load gospel music???????????

6 Jun 2013 19:12

The Kings Head, Hythe

decent enough Sheps local, Bishops Finger was very nice on my last visit, locals seemed friendly enough

18 Oct 2012 12:01

Three Mariners, Hythe

tucked away in a back street on the quite side of the military canal, very clean nice pub and very busy given it's location, this is the best pub in Hythe for real ale drinkers, with a good range of well kept ales

18 Oct 2012 11:37

Dial Arch, Woolwich

best pub in Woolwich probably isn't much of an accolade given the competition, it's the only pub in Woolwich you could take someone you wanted a second date with

18 Oct 2012 11:25

The Ship Inn, Sandgate

not really used the place, popped in for a coffee the morning of the Olympic torch relay, and was really impressed by the large range of ales and ciders on offer, unfortunately it was far to early for me to start sampling, but fully intend investigating further very soon

18 Oct 2012 07:56

Vigilance, Brixham

no complaints about this Spoons, used it over the Easter week-end this year, good beer and spirit range good service and decent food, well run compared to some of there other establishments

18 Oct 2012 07:46

Ocean Inn, Dymchurch

only used the pub itself ones and found it pretty good, customers seemed friendly and the Directors was good, there is a great seafood stall outside and I always get some fresh seafood when in Dynchurch

3 Oct 2012 18:22

The Guildhall, Folkestone

quite surprised by the last posting, although I'm not a regular I've used the pub at times, and though it isn't a vast range of ales, they are always well kept and decent, the service is good but not over friendly, it seems to attract a good crowd of regulars, and located of the beaten track on the Bayle right next to the excellent British Lion and with a spoons at the bottom of the road it must be doing something right

3 Oct 2012 18:15

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone

I've used this pub quite a lot over the past year when visiting Folkestone but am reluctant to return now after my last visit, I know you take a chance with spoons but I've found this one really good lately, but my last visit was just appalling, we ordered food which seemed to take ages to arrive, when it did it was stone cold rubbish, when i complained I was offered a free coffee which I declined, the food wasn't just poor, it was awful, and there is simply no excuse for such poor service, i don't go to spoons expecting Micheline star cuisine, but this had to be seen to be believed, 0 out of 10 is generous in this case

30 Aug 2012 18:02

Great Harry, Woolwich

the range of ales doesn't seem as good as pre fire, but it's good to have some choice again in Woolwich, and me and the father-in-law enjoyed our Sunday lunch time whiskeys, the Penderyn? (Welsh Malt) is excellent, been using the Queens up the road and I must admit i do miss the genuine local pub atmosphere but hay-ho you can't beat the range and value of the drinks, and as I've said before Sundays lunch is a good to visit as all the dossers are waiting for Monday to cash there Giro's

30 Aug 2012 17:48

The Bridge Inn, Lynton

changed hands recently, and is now called The Cottage Inn, had a bad reputation, but is now run really well by a caring attentive landlord, three local ales, the Exmoor ale I was drinking was very nice, and the food was freshly prepared home cooked, we were staying at the campsite next door and ate in there most nights, don't be put off by it's past rep as the new landlord has apparently invested a lot in this venture, and seems eager to please his customers and keep them coming back, there also seemed to be a lot of locals both eating and drinking, which is usually a good sign

30 Aug 2012 17:31

The Churchill Tavern, Ramsgate

great pub, friendly landlord, friendly locals, I came in here three nights running last week whilst staying in Ramsgate, and by the third night I was being treated as if I'd been using the pub for years, the food was good, I'd recommend the specials board, and the beer was tops with a good selection and well looked after, there's some great seating overlooking Pegwell Bay and the harbour, and if and when I'm in Thanet, I'd certainly go back for some more 8/10

2 Nov 2011 16:47

Queens Arms, Woolwich

I like this pub, not been here for a while as usually use spoons Sunday lunch time for the ales, was pleased to see the addition of three hand pumps on the bar sinse my last visit, as usual the place was busy with a mixed bag of locals from old boys to young lads good atmosphere, no bad vibes, some lovely whelks cockles etc on the bar, the Speckled Hen was decent enough, and the guiness as always in there is great and reasonable at 2.85 a pint, still remains a decent well run local, and a proper old school Sunday Lunchtime

16 Aug 2011 16:57

Great Harry, Woolwich

came back from the west country Saturday to a Woolwich wrecked, I know it's not the greatest place in the world, but was always good on Sunday lunch time, morons and scumbags sounds about right ,terrorist arsonists in my opinion

16 Aug 2011 16:48

The Dolphin Inn, Combe Martin

decent freshly cooked food, the beer was good but a bit of a boring selection, Doombar and another similar type, preferred the food here but a better selection of ales in the mariners

16 Aug 2011 13:58

Bankes Arms Hotel and Country Inn, Studland

I don't normally drink lunch times but broke my rule last Thursday whilst walking around Studland, it was the start of their beer fest and the tent in the garden had the largest array of beers I've seen for a pub festival, we ended up having lunch in the pub and the beers looked so good I had to try one(or two), the one I tried, the isle of purbeck IPA was the freshest I've had and the food was good quality too, if a tad dear, but a couple of beers set me up nicely for a gentle stroll to Old Harry

16 Aug 2011 13:41

The Ship Inn, Langton Matravers

used this pub alot last week as the beer and food were consistantly very good, I would say the best pint I'd had in Purbeck, but that honour went to the bankes arms in Studland

16 Aug 2011 13:31

The Red Lion, Swanage

descent pub food good beer and cider, service was okay on my visit

16 Aug 2011 13:26

The Anchor Inn, Swanage

was in here briefly last week, we were considering eating here as all the other pubs were rammed and this one was quiet, should have known better, the last review said they clean the pipes on a Wednesday, well I can only assume it's the last Wednesday in April because my pint of Hobgoblin was awful, my wifes visit to the loo left her heaving so we left rather quickly, this was easily the worst pub we visited in the area, and probably why this pub was so empty while all the others were heaving

16 Aug 2011 13:23

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone

good selection of ales, of which I've never had a bad one, lovely old building, staff always seem helpful enough, I've never had any trouble getting served, I've not had a main meal in here for a couple of years but that was always a bit hit and miss, but I've had a couple of really good breakfasts in here recently, it's not The British Lion, but well worth a visit especially if your on a budget

27 Jul 2011 13:38

Dial Arch, Woolwich

new addition to the woowich pub scene, very trendy Youngs pub in the old arsenal complex away from the town centre, spacious interior in one of the old historic buildings, plenty of outside seating, good selection of ales and food, and a welcome alternative to the usual woolwich venues

21 Jul 2011 09:58

The Star Inn, Crowlas

in my opinion the range and quality of the ales served here are as good as it gets, and although they didn't roll out the red carpet on my arrival the service and hospitality was fine,

21 Jul 2011 09:46

Cornish Arms, Hayle

after eating and drinking in the Bucket of Blood up the road this was a let down, the food came out in about five mins " DING " and wasn't up to much, ale and service was fine though, but food wise would much prefer too wait the 30 mins + in the B of B for obviously freshly prepared food

5 Jul 2011 13:31

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

easily the best pub in the area, in my opinion, H.S.D. is called a bucket of blood in here, and along with the excellent food is always tops,

30 Jun 2011 12:54

The Black Lion, Appledore

very food orientated pub although they did have a good range of ales, five hand pumps I think, maybee too many as the ones i tried though perfectly drinkable were a little flat, probably best to see what all the locals are drinking

30 Jun 2011 12:49

The British Lion, Folkestone

lovely traditional old pub, the oldest in Folkestone apparantly, Abbott and GK ipa always on with an interesting guest always on and always well kept, the food is tops and one of the best fish and chips anywhere in the land

27 Jun 2011 12:56

Great Harry, Woolwich

still tops for a Sunday lunch time bevy

27 Jun 2011 12:46

The Crown, Stone-in-Oxney

unexceptionably well laid out clean pub that's obviously had a lot of money spent on a refurb, they have a wood burning pizza oven in a tent out on the patio and the place is extremely well presented, they had two beers on the hand pumps, Larkins traditional and Spit fire, I had the later which was very nice, the pizzas and sides I had where also very good and alot of effort has plainly gone in to attracting the local and passing custom

27 Jun 2011 12:39

The Railway Hotel, Appledore

stayed over this weekend,Harveys Hobgoblin and I think Spitfire on, tried the Harveys which was very good, one of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere

27 Jun 2011 12:07

The British Lion, Folkestone

best in folkestone

24 Nov 2010 13:23

Queens Arms, Woolwich

was in here on Sunday for the first half of the Liverpool V Chelsea game, I've not been in for a while as they dont serve ale although I've allways liked the old fashioned local feel to the place, I'd heard the owner had put a new manager in, replacing the guy who used to sit in the corner with his cronies acting the gangster, which did spoil it a bit, well the place was absolutely heaving with locals, there was a lot of families in with thier kids, and it really felt like an old time Sunday lunch time session, somthing I've not seen for a long time, although it was packed thier was no bad vibes and you got served in turn by the two bar staff even though you couldn't really get to the bar, the Guiness is exellent(2.65 a pint) and for me it's a real shame that they don't do ales as it's one of the few proper locals pubs left in the area, oh and the footie was on in 3D

5 May 2010 12:22

London Inn, Torquay

I've used this place a few times, usually mid afternoon in the height of the holiday season, and I've allways had good beer food and service, when spoons do it well they are very good and in my experiance this is certainly one of the better ones, and seems to maintain a high standard

4 May 2010 12:44

The Red Lion, Snargate

this pub is an absolute must see if your in the area,

4 May 2010 12:20

The Britannia Inn, Dungeness

I was really impressed with this place, considering it's location it's very popular, The Sheps ale was spot on and the service was friendly, but what really stood out for me was the quality of the food, I've sampled the fish and chips all over the country and this was honestly the best I can remember, it knocks the Pilot into a cocked hat

20 Apr 2010 13:06

The Pilot Inn, Lydd

we were a bit disappointed with The Pilot, allthough the fish we had was fresh and the portions were large, the batter was about an inch thick in places and very heavy and the chips were hard, the Adnams Broadside and the service were okay, but the fish and chips in The Brittania were far better considering this places reputation is built on it, also if you look on the web site thier are lots of deals, ie free wine with two main meals, but none of these are evedent on the menu or displayed any where on the premisis, I know this is a beer site and I've mainly been banging on about the food, but as other reviews state this is more a chip shop with beer

20 Apr 2010 12:51

The Cinque Ports Arms, New Romney

decent no frills pub with good food and well kept ale, was a bit quite when we where in on a Tuesday evening with just a few locals playing darts, so it lacked a bit of atmosphere, bur the Directors was spot on and the food was home made staple pub grub,

20 Apr 2010 12:33

The Ship Hotel, New Romney

this is thae place to go if your in company and are looking for a bit more than a pint and a cheese roll, but still retain a nice pub atmosphere, the ship seems to do this really well, with a modern spacious interior whiile still keeping it's old world pub charm, the food was really good if a tad dearer than else where in the area, and the service was prompt and friendly and the beer was good ,we only ended up in here by accident as the Warren didn't take bank cards, but was glad we ended up here and will certainly be back when we're in the area

20 Apr 2010 12:23

The Warren Inn, New Romney

nice old fashioned place, seems mainly for the locals, came in here last week looking for food, but as they didn't take cards we had to go else where, I had a decent pint of Late red and would have stayed for a meal but was a bit short of cash, the menu looked limited and it's far moore a traditional type pub that serves a bit of food

20 Apr 2010 12:11

The George, West Bay

well this place seems to really divide opinion, people who have had really bad food and service, or the people who only write about this pub with glowing comments, who accuse all the other reviewers of being sad, if you check out the people who have had a bad experience in here you will generally find they have left genuine reviews for other pubs, the glowing ones only for this one, so I'd suggest you look at all the reviews before making up your mind, I'll give it a 1/10 as it sells beer

1 Apr 2010 12:18

The Libertine, Borough

was in here Saturday night as my bro's band were playing, seemed like a desent sort of place, three ales on Dauchers Doombar and Spitfire the Spitfire and Doombar were both in good nic and the service was quick even though it was busy, with so many good pubs in the area they need to set a good standard and they seem to be making a good go of it

29 Mar 2010 12:21

Great Harry, Woolwich

I've had some really top notch ales in here over the past months, I only really come in here Sunday lunch times when it's not too busy and the more unsavory punters you normally get in here are all absent, as I've said I've had some really good ales they've allways been in good nic and Sunday afternoons seems like a really good time to visit

29 Mar 2010 12:12

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

I,ve now been using the Pilot most Friday evenings and for family functions for the last few months, the food is back to it's best so that keeps the ladies happy, and the beer is tops, they have the full range of Fullers on, I usually have the ESB which is allways well kept, I was chatting to the Cask Marque bloke in last night who was testing thier wares(what a Job), I love this place you could quite easily think you were in a country pub somewhere and allthough the food side is very popular it still retains an exelent pub feel

27 Mar 2010 10:16

The George, West Bay

I see my comments have been removed, some one dosn't like the truth, just read all the other reviews for this pub before they get them removed too and ignore the ones that have plainly been contrived

25 Mar 2010 12:45

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

last time I used this pub the beer was crap and it was full of gingers mates, all be it about 8 years ago, it seems to have got a lot better as have most of the pubs in the area, but the best in Greenwich, it may be one of the best in the central tourist area, but there are meany desent pubs tucked away, the Ashburnham,Plume of the Feathers,Richard111,the Pelton,The Yacht and even the Cutty Sark

24 Mar 2010 13:56

The Comet, St Leonards on Sea

I've only ever popped in here for a quick one when staying the weekend at the upmarket Coome Haven, it's always a bit worrying when a landlord feels the need to defend his pub in this way,on my brief visit I didn't get the urge to return as I felt it lacked atmosphere, I can confirm however that the Bull is a very welcoming and well run pub as my review from a couple of years back stated,

18 Mar 2010 13:40

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

this is certainly one of the best locations in Greenwich but in my opinion there are better, The Pelton, The Yacht and the Plume of the Feathers are better bets

11 Mar 2010 14:00

The Mitre, Greenwich

I've found on this site that people who post just one review for one pub only, usually either extremely good or extremely bad, as the one below, can be disregarded as there is usually an ulterior motive, i havn't used this pub for a while but have found it a good solid locals pub as most of the genuine reviews for this pub will testify

10 Mar 2010 13:24

The Morpeth Arms, Pimlico

I don't think you refuse to serve people because you don't like thier polatics

10 Mar 2010 12:09

The Lord Derby, Plumstead

I've heard this pub is re-opening soon, by the same people who saved the Ship on Plumstead common

12 Feb 2010 17:15

The Lamb and Flag, Oxford

unusual to see Palmers beers so far from West Dorset, I presume the L&F gold is standard Palmers gold re-branded for this pub

12 Feb 2010 17:12

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren

this is a lovely looking pub with stunning views over the bay but on the one occaision I've used it the staff were disinterested, bordering on rude, and the food was rubbish, I had a "chefs special " lasagne, which was just some dodgy looking slop with hardly any pasta, and my wife had a grizzly steak, and the ale was just about okay

2 Feb 2010 14:03

The Ring, Southwark

as a local I'm surprised that The Ring is one of bites top pubs, there must have been a marked improvement as this was always one of the places you would walk past on a local crawl

22 Jan 2010 10:01

The Duke of Sussex, Waterloo

I've fond memories of this place, and it hasn't changed sinse I was a lad in the 70's, and we allways seem to finish up in here when I'm back in the area as my bro still lives up the road and it's near the station, I've allways found it a decent locals boozer with a rich mixture of people, a good pub atmosphere and a decent pint of real ale, last time we were in with the wifes(most unusual) after a night out up west, and although I'm only in once or twice a year, I've always had a good night and good ale, Trainman must have been really unlucky or got a grudge

22 Jan 2010 09:48

The Rising Sun, Kemsing

good advice Guy, it's often a good idea to see what everyone else is drinking in these sort of places,I automaticaly went for the No5, I agree it's a top place,it would be great to see it back to it's former glory though, when it was a lot busier

7 Jan 2010 12:46

The Prince Albert (Rose's), Woolwich

if you like rough and ready then this is the place for you, I popped in with the misses just before christmas and the land lady who I've never seen on my previous visits took the trouble to come over and have a chat, the ale I tried wasn't up to much but the one all the regulars where drinking looked top notch, I've noticed that before in here that they all seem to stick to the same beer,it's not really the sort of place to take some one on a date, but when ever I've been in your allways made to feel welcome and end up chatting to the locals, apart from the(harmless) incoherant drunk who i think took a shine to my missus, who was a bit irritating, I really liike it here, definately no frills, and it's probably best to see what the regulars are drinking before ordering the ale

7 Jan 2010 12:32

The Furze Wren, Bexleyheath

had a decent meal hear Friday night, I was a bit aprehensive as I'd usually aviod these places on a Friday night, it was fine though, it was reasonably busy but the service was quick the food was good and the guest ale I was drinking was spot on,Ugly sister I think it was called, I've had some really good ales in here and i've never noticed any unsavory elements spioling it as you tend to get in some of there places, well done spoons

21 Dec 2009 12:24

Royal George Inn, Salisbury

and the welcome is welcoming?

16 Dec 2009 23:54

The Wyndham Arms, Salisbury

Bah Humbug! Mumble . . . mumble

classic

16 Dec 2009 23:52

The Bull, Woolwich

i noticed the addition of a couple of ale pumps on the bar when i was walking past the other day, can't comment on the quality as i've yet to try but I will now probably give it a go one night soon

14 Dec 2009 13:24

Great Harry, Woolwich

I came in here Saturday morning for a breakfast after a big night out and I was well impressed, it's the first time i've eaten here, i've always thought how good the food looks on a sunday when I'm in for my lunch time bevvie, and the brekkie I had was top notch, I've also had some really good guest ales on my Sunday lunch visits the Rosey Nosey was really good as was the Abbott reserve but at 6.5% i just had the one, I've grown to really like this place, if you go in when it's not to busy I find the service really good, and when they get it right you can't beat spoons for the variety quality and price of the food and especially the ales

14 Dec 2009 09:46

The Three Horseshoes, Burton Bradstock

many thanks, shame everyones not as smart as you

23 Nov 2009 16:43

The International Restaurant and Bar, Trafalgar Square

horrid posey chav cocktail bar, expensive

12 Nov 2009 12:40

Founders Arms, Bankside

okay beer,Youngs, always packed due to it's great river side location, one for the tourists really

12 Nov 2009 12:26

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

handy place to stop and have a jar while strolling along the south bank, had a couple of decent pints of landlord, got served reasonably quickly and you can stand and watch the river traffick go by weather permitting, it wasn't particularly busy for a Friday night, and all the bar staff where in halloween costumes, probably not where I'd choose to spend a whole night, but a handy stop off on the way to the market porter, I'll give it a 6/10 for it's river location

12 Nov 2009 12:20

12 Nov 2009 12:19

The Castle Inn, St Ives

i must have visited on an off day, although the board outside listed various ales most were not acually available,

6 Nov 2009 12:08

The George, West Bay

I was tempted to give this a try whilst in West Bay a couple of weeks ago, just to see if the guvnor was as a bad as the recent reviews had suggested, just for entertainment value, well sinse I've been home and read the last couple of reviews it seems to have got worse, I'm almost disappointed I didn't go in now, it sounds like a scream, so long as you're not eating

5 Nov 2009 16:47

The Furze Wren, Bexleyheath

I've had a few Rubies in jdw's up and down the country and thier not bad at all, not this one though but i've eaten here a few times with no probs, I live in woolwich and allways come to bexleyheath rather than my local spoons as both this and the wrong un are far better, this one the better of bexleys two, but the difference is marginal, i've allways had a decent pint with no trouble getting served at the bar and will certainly use both of them again

30 Oct 2009 12:40

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

ate in here for the first time in ages after a couple of disappointments when the food seemed to go down hill for a while after the change over, allthough I've never been let down by the choise or condition off the ale, or come to that the general atmosphere of the pub, it allways remained a good solid boozer while managing to incorporate the food side without either interfering, well they seem to have sorted the food out now as both our meals were excellent as was the service and beer, the place was very busy as you'd expect on a Friday evening, but when you consider this place is very isolated they must be doing somthing very right, back to a 9/10 allthough I'd of given it an 8 even when the food wasn't up to scratch

28 Oct 2009 13:00

Great Harry, Woolwich

spot on Roger, Sunday lunch time is a safe bet, and i've got a feeling they put the guest ales on in the morning as I've recently had some really good ones that are very fresh, I never go in here at any other time as when I have it allways feels like a tinder box ready to explode

28 Oct 2009 12:41

The Barrel of Beer, Beer

popped in here for a quicky last week mainly to get out of the rain one lunch time, was a nice cosy atmosphere with a log fire burning in the corner, i had a pint of best bitter can't recall what, which was very pale in colour for a bitter and not really to my taste, was also very cold,

27 Oct 2009 13:59

Greyhound, Bridport

i had a couple of decent breakfasts in here last week, it was quite busy on both occaisions, and the service was prompt, can't comment on the beer quality as tempting though it was to have a pint with my breakfast, being on holiday an all, but I stuck to coffee,

27 Oct 2009 13:45

The Three Horseshoes, Burton Bradstock

went in here for an evening meal last Wed and it was very quite, but I have to say that from what i saw that it was one of the stragest vibes I've had in a pub, prehaps it was the lack of punters, as a review earlier said it was nornally rammed, but with just me and the wife sat in one corner and about three locals at the bar no back ground music, we found our selfs listening to the rather load banter going on at the bar, the middle aged bar person was flirting outragously with the young bar maid, who kept telling him to getoff and stop it, and acouple of the locals half egging him on, when the conversation got round to some one going round one of thier houses after sombody with a base ball bat, it was all very load and very odd, the menus was suprisingly big as was the list of specials on the two black boards, and a couple who came in while we were eating commented on the specials being the same as yesterday, the food was okay and the ale was very well kept, but overall I'd have to describe the experiance as strange, oh yeh and they could have lit the fire as well

26 Oct 2009 12:54

The Crown Inn, Bridport

allthough they serve food, and pretty decent at that, unless the sun is shining and you can use the ample bench space outside, the inside of the pubhasn't set aside any area for eating, most of the room is taken up with an odd array of games tables so it's not particully comfortable as you have to just grab a space where you can, so i felt a bit like sitting with your dinner on your knees, although the food was good as was the palmers 200 I felt it was let down by the lack of decent eating area, but probably from a locals point of view that's just how they like it

26 Oct 2009 12:35

The West Bay, West Bay

lovely old world inn, top notch Palmers 200, the food was the best I had in my week in Dorset, and the atmosphere was really good allthough it was pretty quite last Thursday earlyish evening when I was here, I'll bet it's a lot bussier in the hight of the holiday season, the best in west bay, but this is reflected in the price of the food, but i felt it was worth the little bit extra for the quality of the food, beer, service and general ambiance

26 Oct 2009 12:19

Bridport Arms Hotel, West Bay

decent sort of place, beer was okay, just the dorset gold and best bitter on when I visited, but both were in good enough order, though I found the gold a little sweet for my taste, the food was good with out being great and the service was spot on and the restaurant area was cosy and comfortable , all in all a decent place for a meal and a beer

26 Oct 2009 12:09

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

this was my father in laws local back in the seventies when it was the red lion, back then it was a solid locals boozer with no real ales, I'm ashamed to say that even after reading all the positive reviews over the last few years, and still visiting the area on a semi regular basis have not been in here yet to sample the ales on offer, must rectify that next time I'm in my old stamping ground

14 Oct 2009 12:21

Tremenheere, Penzance

i must get lucky when i come in here as I've always found beer and service reasonable, but when visiting spoons pubs I always expect the worst, so I'm probably easily impressed by reasonable service

7 Oct 2009 16:55

The Malt Shovel, Dartford

went to the fish night a couple of Fridays ago and was most impressed by the freshness and quality of the food, three hand pumps on the bar youngs special, st austell tribute and another i cant recall, I tried all three and all were in top notch condition, the land lord was very friendly and even remembered my name from when I'd booked earlier my phone, the restaurant part was very busy, an indication at the quality of the food, and there was a pleasant Friday night local type atmosphere, and I will certainly recomend this place to friends and family

29 Sep 2009 09:56

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

not been in for a while, but whenever I've had the call to stop in for a swift one or two after work I've always found the service okay compared with some other spoons I've been in, always got a good range of ales on, and is usually quite busy due to it's central location, and as the last review indicates most people find it a much better choice the the SC over the road

28 Sep 2009 12:06

The Beachy Head, Eastbourne

popped in here this Saturday after walking the cliffs, it's a great location and the views are great, it's set up purly for the passing trade so doesn't have to try to hard to attract a steady stream of customers, having said that the pint of Spitfire and Harveys I tried were both very good, the service was okay but the fish and chips we had wasn't up to much, but was alright, and I'd use it again as a stop off for a beer on a hike over the downs, I'd find somewhere else to eat though

1 Sep 2009 12:50

The Bull, Horton Kirby

a little bit of a trek to use it as regulaly as i'd like, but well worth seeking out if you love good ale and a proper family run local, it's mainly a beer pub but serve food lunch times and Friday and Sat evenings, and is home cooked hearty pub fare, the bar staff are friendly and helpful and on my visit was asked when I'd be back, which would be a lot more frequently if it was nearer home, a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out for the ale enthusiasts,or just any one who appreciates a good old fashioned local

1 Sep 2009 12:33

The Prince Albert (Rose's), Woolwich

I was at a loose end Friday evening, and was going to pop into The Great Harry, but I thought I'd make the effort and walk the extra 5 mins to Roses as I've been threatening to give it anither go for ages, nothing seems to have changed since my last visit about three years ago, exept it looked a lot cleaner allthough the decor is still very dated, it adds to the proper ale drinkers pub feel to the place, I tried a pint of somthing called HMS Ajax from a Somerset brewery, which was very good, i had a couple of those before I thought I'd give one of the other two pumps a go, unfortunalely this one was a bit passed it's best and managed only about half when I thought I'd go back to the Ajax, when I mentioned the beer was not quite right it was replaced for the Ajax, the place wasn't to busy for a Friday night, but the regular drinkers at the bar were friendly and chatty, and i felt as if I'd been going in regularly for years, and would certainly use it again

24 Aug 2009 12:12

The Horse Bar, Waterloo

this used to be a real pub called the horse and groom, and i've had some good times in here when I was a local lad, I havn't been in since it's now called the horse, I'm probably a bit predudice or a bit nostalgic, but it looks a bit poncy to me

21 Aug 2009 14:00

The Duke of Sussex, Waterloo

I'm surprised so many people seem to find this place so intimidating, I've allways thought it quite a good atmosphere, and allthough I may not have been in for a year or more the guvnor allways seems to acknowledge you as a part time regular, have often ended up here after touring the local pubs catching up with family, and probably well oiled enough not to be intimidated by a few likely local lads, I've usually had a good night when ever we've bin in

21 Aug 2009 13:56

The Flowers of the Forest, Borough

back in the seventies this pub was called the Oxford Arms, and a pub round the corner in Blackfriers road was called the Flowers,in the early eighties about two years before they demolished the Blackfries pub they swapped names, I never did find out why, have popped in here occaisionally when doing the rounds in SE1, and as I recall nothing spectacular, just an average locals pub

21 Aug 2009 13:41

The Watermill Inn, Ings

I wish this place was around the corner, probably the best I've visited in the whole country, great food, even better beer, service and atmosphere tops, this was the only place we went to in the lakes after fully intending to try some of the great pubs in the area, we just had to return every night10/10 all day long

21 Aug 2009 12:40

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

lovely little pub away from the hussle and bussle of Greenwich proper, top notch fullers ales, we used to eat here regularly before the old landlord sold it to Fullers, but after a couple of not so good offerings sinse they took over we stopped going in to eat, although the quality of the ales was allways good and the atmosphere and the welcom was allways warm,so on the basis of lot14 latest review I've booked a table for tonight, would still warrent a seven for the beer and atmos alone, after all it is a pub and not a restaurant

21 Aug 2009 12:30

Great Harry, Woolwich

seems normal service has been resumed, I forwarded my previous review to spoons customer service and got a quick response from one of thier managers, and the beers seem to be bang on form again on my last two suday lunch time excursions

18 Aug 2009 13:49

The Sandacres Free House, Sandbanks

was pleasantly surprised by this place, i popped in for a quick drink on my weekend in Poole, as we'd been roaming around for hours on a scorching hot day, I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg for a half of shandy for the wife and a pint for myself and was quite surprised to see cask ales on, one at under two pound a pint, we didn't eat but people were having bar type food (curly fries with cheese)that type of thing, and it looked okay and seemed quite popular, my pint was exellent so at that price I had another, we sat out on the terrace over looking Poole bay, overall a great location and good value, nothing fancy but ideal for a sunny afternoon

18 Aug 2009 13:03

The Lord Wimborne, Poole

was very quite for a town centre spoons perhaps due to a sister pub on the quay five mins away, beers were good service was quick due to lack of punters crowding round the bar, I had a really nice lasagne which was one of the cheaper items on the menu my wife had salmon one of the dearest which was dried out and rank so as usual in these places you're taking a chance with the food

18 Aug 2009 12:47

The London Inn, Padstow

my pint of HSD was not quite right, I was only in the once so may have got the bottom of the barrell, seemed like a decent place though

18 Aug 2009 12:39

Towan Blystra, Newquay

ales great, food average, service slow, about what you'd expect from a busy spoons, I thought the staff tried very hard to serve customers in turn which isn't allways the case in these places, went in for breakfast a couple of times, and seemed to wait ages, overall much what you'd expect from a busy spoons

18 Aug 2009 12:35

Green Parrot, Perranporth

was in Perranporth on a very hot busy day, and parked in the Parrot as every were else was chocker block,it was 5 refundable at the bar if you spent over 10 and as we were having luch out seemed sensible to eat there, we had fish and chips which was okay I suppose,it looked and tasted like it had been refried, the pint i had was in good nick, I think it was Doombar or Pride I can't remember, i probably would use it again but only as a convenient place to park

18 Aug 2009 12:29

Travellers Rest, Trevarrian

lovely old traditional looking Cornish pub, friendly staff and well kept HSD,the food could have been better but was okay, I would have used it more had the food been more to my taste,

18 Aug 2009 12:19

The Phoenix, Watergate Bay

the fish and chips were great and the doombar was in good nick, it's more lick a sufers shack than a pub, perfectly understandable in Watergate bay, with a large terrace overlooking the ocean, I prefer the more traditional type of place but I would definately use it again

18 Aug 2009 12:15

The Orange Tree, Baldock

popped in here for a quick pint yesterday as I had an hour to kill in Baldock, was greeted with a friendly hello and a smile from the lady sitting outside with a coffee, who I presume was the landlady, the main bar to the right as you go in was set up for food so i went to the left, a small public bar, it was only just after eleven am so there where only a couple of locals sitting at the bar, it's a green king house so I ordered a pint of abbott and sat down to drink, I soon got chatting to the two local chaps and we were soon joined by the land lady and after about 5 mins I felt like it was my local, the abbott was in excellent condition and the locals were drinking the IPA so I expect that was okay also, I'd originally just popped in for a quick one but stayed for another as both the beer and the atmosphere were both very good, and if I lived locally would certainly return to try the food and a more lesurely beer

24 Jul 2009 12:40

The Boathouse Tavern and Grill, Dawlish Warren

that's sarcasm brummie not paranoia, and on my ONE visit I wasn't looking for the dog bowl, sadly your defence of the boathouse hasn't gained any credability judging by the other reviews

20 Jul 2009 13:52

Great Harry, Woolwich

i'm usually quite complimentary about "the harry" despite it's drawbacks, as in all the time I've used it I've always had a decent pint, well the last two Sundays I've been in the beer seems have been badly neglected, the first week I had to back a pint of Abbott that was off, and yesterday I tried the Abbott which was just about drinkable, so I switched to Pedegree which was even worse, I then had the Ruddles which was spot on, it seems to me that with the Ruddles at 1 50 that seems to be the only beer really moving while the others are left to go off, this is a worry as i've been coming in for years with no probs and now two weeks in a row I've had well below standard ales

20 Jul 2009 13:32

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

i'd rate this pub with the boat house in Dawlish Warren, another of Alex favorites, purly set up for the tourist trade, if you only use a pub once a year on holiday then anythings a treat

6 Jul 2009 09:38

The Boathouse Tavern and Grill, Dawlish Warren

hi brummy you seem very defensive of the boat house, are you the manager?, in my opinion it was a diabolical hole, that was my review and I didn't feel the need to elaborate further, and if you did read my reviews you would see that I judge a pub on merit and not just leaving a bowl of water for the dog, who shouldn't be in the pub any way, flea bag pests!!

3 Jul 2009 12:07

The Boathouse Tavern and Grill, Dawlish Warren

thank you alex, if brummyboy had bothered to check some of my reviews he would notice that I am a regular contributer to this site and most of my reviews are positive, as you said he completely missed the point, that people who post one off reviews for just one pub, that are quite obviosly over the top are usually contrived, incidently I have used the boat house ONCE ONLY, i'm pleased for him that he had a good experiance, but he's in a minority(or quite easily pleased)

2 Jul 2009 13:00

Great Harry, Woolwich

as i've said before, I only come in here Sundays where it seems you get a more civilised clientel than at other times during the week, my wife walked passed the the other day in the week and said thier were all sorts of low lifes spilling on to the pavement{window lickers as some one put it) and that she felt quite intimidated just walking past, I can only comment on what I see on a Sunday lunch time when it seems the undesirables are all at home licking there windows

26 Jun 2009 12:28

The Boathouse Tavern and Grill, Dawlish Warren

in all the years i've been using this site the previous review is the only good one i've ever seen for this diobolical hole of a tourist trap, a bit to good, and the only review ever posted by this person

1 Jun 2009 12:26

Great Harry, Woolwich

it's fair to say you didn't like this pub then Harry, I know it gets it's fair share of dross , but to tar them all with the same brush is a bit unfair, as I've said before i mainly use this place on a Sunday and have never seen any trouble, i was here with my father-in-law yesterday and there was a diverse mix of punters, ranging from the usual sort youd expect to see in there to families having there lunch to general Sunday lunch timers enjoying a desent pint

1 Jun 2009 12:18

The Bull, Woolwich

thanks Roger, I wasn't trying to be a smarty pants, was like you a bit confused at the location, I'm ashamed to say that I've never actually tried this place, although I've been tempted a couple of times on my visits to Oxleys wood, I was told that although they display a Youngs sign on the outside, didn't actually serve any cask ales, well i'll most certainly be giving it a try soon

28 May 2009 13:55

The Bun Penny, Herne Bay

why is it that Shep Neame pubs are about the worst places to get a pint of thier beer as the last review states, when you can get one of thiers it's quite often sub standard and better when served in a free house, unlike the St Austel pubs in the west country were i dont think I've ever been disappointed with the quality that it's served, only that you can't always get HSD, although Bishops Finger when served properly is in my opinion it's equal

19 May 2009 12:59

Saxon Shore, Herne Bay

came in here last bank holiday week end on the Saturday, probably the hottest week of the year so far, and Herne bay was packed, had a marathon walk to Birchington and back, so about was ready for some refreshment whaen we got back at about five pm, the place was heaving, and the pubs on the front were very busy, so it was a surprise to find it reasonably quite in here, both the beer and the service were very good as was the food, so all in all we were pleasantly surprised, i'll give it a 7 judged on this visit

19 May 2009 12:45

Robert Pocock, Gravesend

very nice lay out, the beer and service were exelent, lovely pint of Westerham bulldog, unfortunately the food was a bit rubbish, which was a disappointment as otherwise it seemed promising, maybe it was the chefs day off, 7/10 for the beer though

19 May 2009 12:31

The Seal, Selsey

seems to be set up more for the food side of things, the restaurant bit is separate from the very small bar area that is more a stand up locals affair, had a nice well kept pint of some thing(cant remember) but as we wern't eating we moved on to some where a bit more intimate for a quite drink with the misses

19 May 2009 12:24

Hatters Inn, Bognor Regis

popped in on the way back from Selsey Friday after Easter for a breakfast at about 09 30, strange to see people on the ale that time of day, I had a decent breakfast but stuck to coffee although i was tempted, must give it a try some time

19 May 2009 12:16

Angarrack Inn, Angarrack

it's a shame if this place has been allowed to slide as it was allways worth seeking out for a decent meal and great ale, and enough off the trail to be a bit more intimate than the usual tourist places

11 May 2009 12:38

The Bull, Horton Kirby

thought i'd drive out and give this place a go after all the great reviews, and i certainly wasn't disappointed, real ale heaven, friendly bar staff, great home cooked food, they had about 8 barrells out the back on gravity from the pheonix brewery, and three of thier regular brews in the bar on hand pump, and of the three i tried all were spot on, the west coast IPA seemed to be going fast, and the wobbly bob at 6% was a welcome change from the usual, great place will certainly return, has RogerB been thier yet

11 May 2009 12:25

Sidcup Place, Sidcup

was in here Saturday for a meal with family, more a restaurant than a pub,but saying that the food and service were okay, and the guiness was fine, just about what you'ed expect fron this sort of place

11 May 2009 12:12

Queens Arms, Woolwich

the queens is a genuine no frills locals pub, kareoke friday nights, cheese and bikkies sunday lunch time, the guiness is very good and I would use it a lot more if they sold real ale

28 Apr 2009 12:21

The Anglesea Arms, Woolwich

I havn't been in here for a about a year or so and I'm not a regular, but it's a Shepard Neame house that doesn't actually serve any cask ales, not on my last visit anyway, you can get a keg Spitfire but if you want the real thing you have to walk over the road to JDW's

12 Feb 2009 12:45

The Bull, Woolwich

not sure why this is listed as a woolwich pub

12 Feb 2009 12:35

The Lord Clyde, Borough

always very busy considering it's location and all the other great pubs in the area ,the beer is in top condition although they could do with a regular guest ale, on the couple of occaisions I've been in they only have Adnams and Pride, not my favs, but they seem to go down well with the locals, personally I'd prefer it if they had a couple of booths or alcoves that you could hide away in

12 Feb 2009 12:33

The Albert Arms, Elephant and Castle

grew up in the area and remember this as one of the better pubs in the area, and quite often pop in when I'm in SE1, and I've had some good nights in here, though not recently, good to see RogerB has visited as it's rather tucked away off the beaten track

11 Feb 2009 12:38

The Watermill Inn, Ings

I ate in here every night when i stayed in the area for 3 days last year and found the food excellent and reasonably priced, we'd fully intended going to a few other places so i could sample the local ales, but with such a wide choice we came back every night, my wifes a non drinker so if the food wasn't up to scratch we would have found somthing else, i think the previous review must have been unlucky but it gets a 10/10 every time from me

5 Feb 2009 13:02

The Old Mill, Plumstead

most definately the best in Se18, as the previous reviews have said,Andy is a good bloke who knows and loves his ales, usualy 5 on the go and constantly changing, I used to come in every Sunday lunch time for one or three, but since my (philisteine)father in law now accompanies me and he kept complaining that the beer "tasted funny"we now go to spoons in woolwich where I can get a decent pint of ale and he can have a John Smiths, that just leaves the odd Friday night with the missus, still a treat when I get the chance, but it's more of a blokes boozer than one to take the ladies, unless there ale fans as well,

4 Feb 2009 12:47

Royal Standard, Hayle

the least inviting looking pub in hayle, I havn't actually used it so it may be brilliant, not judging by the last comment though

20 Jan 2009 13:53

The Slug and Lettuce, Waterloo

only one review sammy, what a suprise, best we all get down there as it's so brilliant

14 Jan 2009 13:05

The Duke of Sussex, Waterloo

ended up in here as always when out with my bro just before xmas, dauchers IPA very nice, about the only pub in the area that doesn't seem to have changed anything sinse I was a lad growing up round here in the seventies

14 Jan 2009 12:56

The Ruby Lounge, Waterloo

when I was a lad we had pubs round here, The Red Lion, Horse and Groom, The Hercules, this was the Pat(spanish patriot)now it sounds like a zoo with horses, camels and walrus

14 Jan 2009 12:51

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo

havn't been in for a couple of years, but this was my local as a lad growing up in the area, when it still had a saloon and public bar it had a lot more character,at least it's still called the C&C and not the Horse, Walrus or camel and cucumber

14 Jan 2009 12:45

London Inn, Torquay

food was very good when we visited

13 Jan 2009 14:01

Hatters Inn, Bognor Regis

Spoons tend to lack atmosphere,or seem to have a strange vibe unique to them, this is no different, but if you get a nice booth with a few friends you can have a decent time here, their choice of ales is hard to match, the food is a bit hit and miss, but when in Bognor this is usually where we end up

13 Jan 2009 13:58

The Forester Free House, Deal

tiny little gaff on the sea front, didn't go in but it looked like one for the locals

13 Jan 2009 13:08

Kings Head, Deal

used this pub a couple of times when staying in Deal last year, food and beer were reasonably good and a decent pub atmosphere

13 Jan 2009 13:01

Great Harry, Woolwich

still my Sunday lunch time haunt as it's the only place within walking distance with a good choice of ales, it's never so busy you cant get served at that time, and the ale (I usualy have Abbott ) is always good, i gave the Elgoods Thin Ice a go after a pint of Abbott and both were spot on, i'm actually begining to warm to the place, I'm going to give it a 7/10 as i've been coming in here for over 5 years and never had a bad pint, and it's the only place in central Woolwich with a choice of ales, and Roses is a bit to far to stagger back from a Sunday lunch time tipple

13 Jan 2009 12:28

The Pullman, Woolwich

now it's a dlr station, rumour has it there are still traces of cocaine where the toilets used to be

13 Jan 2009 10:02

The Watermill Inn, Ings

just an 8 ape, this gets a 10 all day long in my book, I just wish there were places like this nearer to home

9 Jan 2009 12:15

Captain Digby, Broadstairs

had a very nice meal in here about a year ago, not a specialist ale place and I cant remember what I was supping, but it was exeptable, I think this a very popular locals restaurant and you'd probably need to book if you want a table in the evening, we where here on a Thursday evening and it was very busy, definetely more a restaurant than a pub and is located in a lovely cliffside position with a great big childrens play area in the nice beer garden I'll give it a 7.5

8 Jan 2009 14:02

The Danson Stables, Danson Park

it's a shame these places wait untill there custom deserts them untill they try to improve the service,

7 Jan 2009 13:50

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

had a meal in here just before Christmas, very busy, and just about what you'd expect from a Harvester 6/10

7 Jan 2009 13:35

The Alma, Sidcup

nice traditional pub with well kept ale, would be nice if there was somthing a bit more interesting than Pride and Courage best though

7 Jan 2009 13:30

The Powder Monkey, Greenwich

was the Cricketers, was a gay bar, now somthing else, if it can't attract the pink pound I don't give it much hope

7 Jan 2009 13:18

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

i allways find you get a better pint of Sheps brews from free houses than from thier own places which Ifind a bit strange

7 Jan 2009 13:09

Lord Hood, Greenwich

suprised this place manages to survive as it's just off the main drag for passing tourist trade, and almost directly opposite Greenwich Spoons

7 Jan 2009 13:00

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

agree with the last review, I thought it kooked a bit poncy, has a cask marque but all they had was Pride, so we went to the Spoons for some choice

7 Jan 2009 12:52

The Cricketers, Greenwich

was a gay bar for a while, now in another incarnation which will probably last all of six months

7 Jan 2009 12:48

The Angerstein, Greenwich

back in the nineties this was a rough and ready locals boozer, i havn't been in here sinse those days but from driving past regularly it's been tidied up on the outside, with a very nice looking seating area

7 Jan 2009 12:45

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

I think it must be a bit hit and miss with this place, as i've said in earlier reviews I've allways found it ok here, was in for a couple just before Chrismas was served promtly and had a couple of decent pints of abbott,it was quite busy without being roudy, and it's still the place I'd head for in the area for a decent reasonably priced pint, I wouldn't say I'm a regular but i've worked round here for about 8 years and have been in here several times without any cause for complaint

7 Jan 2009 12:28

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

myself and the missus popped in new years day as I thought after all the slagging off the place had , and as I hadn't been in for a while itwas only fair to give it another go,as others have said it is very cosy atmos on a cold day, cant comment on the food as I didn't eat but my pint of broadside was tops

6 Jan 2009 13:57

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

I reckon 4.4 is generous Alex

6 Jan 2009 12:50

The Foresters Arms, Welling

definately up and running again and looks quite inviting from the outside, if i thought they sold real ale i'd give it a try

15 Dec 2008 12:52

The Danson Stables, Danson Park

stopped going in here about two years ago as it was getting steadily worse every time we went in,and judging by the latest reviews that trend seems to have continued, shame because it was ok

15 Dec 2008 12:47

The Wrong 'Un, Bexleyheath

one of two spoons either end of bexleyheath, o.k. but the other one just shades it

15 Dec 2008 12:41

The Toby Carvery, Bexleyheath

aalways very busy, so it must be doing somthing right, not where i'd choose to go as they don't serve real ale, but apart from that it's a desent enough place especialy if you've got young kids

15 Dec 2008 12:36

The Furze Wren, Bexleyheath

caame in Saturday evening with the missus, food was ok, unlike the paper moon in Dartford, had a couple of lovely pints of a 5.5% christmas ale, which was very nice, the service was a bit slow considering it wasn't that busy, but apart from that we had a enjoyable relaxed drink and meal and I'd certainly use it again

15 Dec 2008 12:26

The Old Mill, Plumstead

one of only three real ale pubs in the whole of SE18

12 Dec 2008 13:06

Tremenheere, Penzance

i think i must be following Gilhalfpint round the country from the lakes to the West country to east anglia

12 Dec 2008 13:01

Albannach, Westminster

unconvinsing Scottish theme (eastern euro bar staff in kilts) very expensive

12 Dec 2008 12:49

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

i bet he hasn;t even got a camera

12 Dec 2008 12:36

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

my my, what a suprise, studiom has only left one review for one pub , a completely over the top glowing endorsment of(in my experience)one of the worst tourist trap boozers in central London, havn't they got the sense to even make it sound believable, no it's paradise on earth

12 Dec 2008 12:35

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

the pub side isn't to bad, allways very busy

3 Dec 2008 09:55

Rising Sun, Dartford

split in two halfs, pub one side, restaurant the other, had to meet some one in here last night, I've been in worse places, still seems to have retained a decent pub vibe, although the beer selection is pretty basic you could spend an evening in here as long as you dont mind lager

3 Dec 2008 09:52

Paper Moon, Dartford

gave this place a try saturday night, ales were great and the atmosphere was nice for a spoons pub, unfortunatly the food was woeful, my wife asked for steak medium rare wich came back cremated, and my lasagne looked like it had been micro waved strait from a crushed up comtainer the salad was limp, and the chips were rank, which is a shame as I've had some desent meals in some of the jdw's of late and this one looked promising, with decent mix of clientel, we had planned on bringing a large family gathering here after a planned panto outing over the xmas period but i doubt it now

19 Nov 2008 12:27

The Red River Inn, Gwithian

have to agree with swooga, ales were great but i felt like i was sitting in a railway waiting room

13 Nov 2008 13:51

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

my apologies to sarahq, but i can only speak as i find, and having used this site for many years you usually find single entry reviews are bogus, especialy such over the top glowing ones after a series of bad ones, if you bothered to check my other entries you would find some really positive ones and you may not have been in such a rush to be so judgmental,
i hope you enjoy all the other tourist trap rip offs in London as you seem very easily pleased

6 Nov 2008 09:56

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

it allways amuses me that these over the top endorsements of places that have had some bad reviews are always the only pubs that these people have commented on, genuine reviewers have allways commented on far moore than just one pub, unlike sarahq and the entries from anskibonankski sound like the letter Bazil Fawlty read out in his restaurant that he'd wrote himself and claimed the chef wrote it

3 Nov 2008 17:19

Pommelers Rest, Tower Bridge

not bad for a spoons, one of the first no smoking pubs in London before the ban

3 Nov 2008 12:23

Troll Cart, Great Yarmouth

stayed in yarmouth last week and ended up eating in there rvery night, first night Wrdnesday had a lovely pint of Abbott reserve which I've never seen before and at 6.7% needs respect, the food was great and the young bar staff were really great, although it was busy they served you in turn the tables were clean and the atmosphere was good, as spoons go this was one of the best i've been in

3 Nov 2008 12:19

The Clarendon Hotel, Deal

i watched a european Chelsea game in here one night on some obscure Bulgarian channel, more a hotel than a pub ok, though i'd probably look for somewhere with a bit moore atmosphere for a proper drink

24 Oct 2008 12:37

The Rising Sun, Kemsing

i have to agree that this is a lovely place, as i've said my father in-law goes to the tractor conventions here, it's a shame some one doesn't take the time to look after the cask ales, if thier going to serve them they should at least be drinkable, if not they should be withdrawn not served up regardless

22 Oct 2008 09:43

Lifeboat Inn, St Ives

have used this place a few and as usual with the st austel pubs beer was allways well kept, i've not seen any of sharps brews on offer in there, HSD is st austels premium stregnth brew

8 Oct 2008 12:34

The Director General, Woolwich

reduced to rubble!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 Oct 2008 12:24

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

exactly what you'd expect from JDW

1 Oct 2008 12:52

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

apparantly the new management hounded out all the old kitchen staff, maybe thats why there having so much ag food wise

1 Oct 2008 12:44

The Bull, Woolwich

havn't been in here sinse the refurb, it's now one massive great bar, has a Irish theme always busy when Celtic are playing, not what I'd exactly call a welcoming sort of place, but ok

1 Oct 2008 12:39

The Bull, Woolwich

havn't been in here sinse the refurb, it's now one massive great bar, has a Irish theme always busy when Celtic are playing, not what I'd exactly call a welcoming sort of place, but ok

1 Oct 2008 12:39

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

the food was much better before fullers took it over, but the range of beers is much better and there allways well kept, still a great place to come for some great real ale, but I havn't bothered coming here to eat recently as the food know can only be described as poor, which is a shame as under the old guvnor the grub was tops, and it's a great setting, i'll still give it a seven for the beer and atmos though

1 Oct 2008 12:22

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo

i used to drink in here in the seventies when it was a traditional type pub, before they knocked the two bars into one and ruined the place

30 Sep 2008 17:04

The Driftwood Spars Hotel, St Agnes

had a couple of nice pints in here, well kept HSD,nice atmosphere and a great location

30 Sep 2008 12:57

The Boathouse Tavern and Grill, Dawlish Warren

it's a shame that many of the pubs in this area can rely on a roaring trade from the hoards of tourist,as they seem to think they can treat you all with compleat contempt, unfortunatly they probably get away with it year after year, this place is in a great location and with a bit of good managment could be great, but as long as people are prepared to pay for sub standard food and service they havn't got any reason to change

30 Sep 2008 12:43

The Windmill, Lambeth

i've never actually been in this place considering i grew up less than 10 mins walk away is quite unusual, but this place is tucked away just round the back of Lambeth Palace in what used to be a very quite run down area,i've walked past a couple of times recently as i've had some woprk in the area and it looks like a very nice inviting place, with real ales advertised on the board outside,i just wanted to say that this place is nowhere near Camberwell,it's just near the embankment between Vauxhall and Lambeth bridges

30 Sep 2008 12:18

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

was an over priced shit hole, and probably got away with it as a lot of the touist clientel only ever went in there once, might improve after it's referb, but i'd go to the spoons over the road at least you dont get tourist prices

19 Sep 2008 13:48

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

iv'e never had a problem with this place as spoons go,always managed to get served promtly, good range of ales, and a nice pub atmosphere

19 Sep 2008 13:42

Great Harry, Woolwich

havn't eaten here but the sunday roast look nice, and the ales are allways good,i only really use this place on a sunday and it's never packed out,so you don't get the usual hassle trying to get served,it just dosn't feel very pub like

19 Sep 2008 13:34

The Star Inn, Crowlas

called in here one evening after reading all the great reviews and i wasn't disappointed on the beer front, had a lovely pint of super ipa 6%,and another not so potent brew to follow which was also very good, but as the previous review says they wern't serving food, consiquently there was only about six people in the place,so it lacked a bit of atmosphere

19 Sep 2008 13:25

Queens Hotel, St Ives

hadn't been in here for a couple of years and was disappointed to se that the range of ales was limited to an i.p.a. and tribute, the menu seemed limited as well, so we went to the union up the road

11 Sep 2008 12:18

The Watermill Inn, Ings

in my opinion one of the best pubs in the country

18 Aug 2008 12:47

The Union Inn, St Ives

used this place a couple of times and thought it was very good value, nothing fancy but reasonably priced home cooked food, ales were limited to doombar and betty stoggs but both were well kept one of the best in st ives, and if you think this is a typical tourist trap you havn't tried the pubs on the sea front

18 Aug 2008 12:45

The Castle Inn, St Ives

i didn't like this place,it might have been me but i just din't like the vibe in there, and of the several ales on the board outside there were only actually about two

18 Aug 2008 12:34

The Packet Station, Falmouth

was in Hayle ror 2 weeks and came here the fist week for curry night as the reviews for the tremenheere in Penzance were appauling well all i can say is they must have swapt staff for the fortnight, the place was vertually empty but that didn't mean they spent time making sure the food was ok,it was shite, the curry night menus were unreadable photo copies and the place just seemed unorganized,we went to penzance the week after as we thought it couldn't be any worse, and had 5 really nice meals with great service allthough the place was packed,so i'm a bit confused, i've been here previous years and found it excellent,so it may have been the chefs day off

18 Aug 2008 12:28

Angarrack Inn, Angarrack

very nice food and ale(HSD)the guvnor thinks he's a comedien though

18 Aug 2008 12:17

Lamb and Flag, Canonstown

very nice food and ale but a bit expensive in my opinion

18 Aug 2008 12:15

Tremenheere, Penzance

i hadn't used this place for a couple of years and was a bit hesitant after reading the latest reviews, but decided to give it a try last Thursday night (JDW's curry night)got there about 6.30 and the place was packed,we managed to squeeze 5 0f us round a table got served no trouble,I may have just been very lucky but the food and the ale were both very good,my wife said her stake was as good as the Lamb and Flag up the road but half the price,as I said i may have been lucky but the service and quality was very good, and i'd certainly go back, and as I said the place was packed

18 Aug 2008 12:10

The Fort Inn, Newquay

good food'well kept St Austel ales great view'well worth a visit

18 Jul 2008 15:41

Turnpike Inn, Hayle

popped in here last year as it's cask marque acredited and was quite disappointed,no hsd,and it seemed more set up to cater for food and is well off the beaten track, but the eating area seemed quite busy so although it wasn't my sort of place others seemed to like it

18 Jul 2008 12:45

Cornish Arms, Hayle

never actually managed to get a table here, it's allways packed so it must be good

18 Jul 2008 12:33

The Watermill Inn, Ings

well worth seeking out if your in the area, the food was ace, none of your micro wave rubbish, and the ales are outstanding,a full range of beers brewed on the premesis and about five guests, all in tip top condition

18 Jul 2008 09:15

The Earl Of Burlington, Eastbourne

went in hear last Saturday around 6.30pm and was reasonably quite, usual JDW set up but the food was hot and very nice, also had a couple of pints of very nice local ale,so all in all i would definately give it another go

8 Jul 2008 12:48

The Prince Albert (Rose's), Woolwich

havn't used this pub sinse Dave sold up as i didn't think the new owners would carry on where he left off,but judging by the favourable reviews i might give it another go instead of using the pretty souless JDW's great harry up the road

8 Jul 2008 12:31

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren

stunning views, apart from that...rubbish food, rubbish service

8 Jul 2008 12:22

The Watermill Inn, Ings

I'll vouch for it Matty,as I've said before real ale heaven....tops

3 Jul 2008 12:32

The Prince Albert, Southwark

I'll make a point of giving it a try next time I'm the area, cheers Grecian

3 Jul 2008 12:27

The Watermill Inn, Ings

tops

30 Jun 2008 13:44

The Neptune Inn, Romney Marsh

me and the Mrs stopped in here Saturday night, not a bad sort of a place, didn't eat there but the pint of Harveys I had was just about ok,not as fresh as it could have been

30 Jun 2008 13:01

The Rising Sun, Kemsing

my father-in-law goes to vintage tractor conventions at this pub,and I went to a barbeue here last Saturday night, and can't argue with the revues about the shabbiness of the place,it was quite a shock as it's like stepping back in time, the landlady of the pub was widowed quite recently and i think thats why it's steadily declining, as i think she keeps it going for the locals, as there where a few in the night we went,I remember going years back and it was a lively well run establishment, and though it may seem a bit of a hole to the passing visitor I think it's very popular with the local community, the barbeque was very nice and seemed well attended,I have to agree about the real ale though the pint I tried tasted stale,so stick to the kegs,it's a lovely building in a wonderful location, and I hope when the present owner retires it's taken on by some one with a passion for running the place as it would be a shame to see another traditional old boozer biting the dust

27 Jun 2008 13:22

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

re ranting and raving, their was a guy last week had a gripe with the land lord and spent the whole day sending message after message accusing him of all sorts,i think he'd forgottrn his medication, his ravings have since been removed

26 Jun 2008 12:57

The Watermill Inn, Ings

not sure what slurpslurp's gripe could have been, couldn't be the beer, perhaps he had a burnt chip,or the chef was ill, still gets a 9 1/2 from me

25 Jun 2008 12:32

The Crown, Borough

back in the day this pub was a local gay haunt, and populated entirely by very butch looking ladies

20 Jun 2008 12:58

The Prince Albert, Southwark

the reviews for this pub suprise me, allthough not a regular i've been in hear a couple of times as I'm originally from the area, and have family near by,and allthough i've not been in for a couple of years I distinctly remember having to drink guiness as thier were no ales, not a bad sort of locals pub tucked away just enough to avoid any passing trade

20 Jun 2008 12:33

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

what a shame, i was hoping to see some more ranting and raving from siba, but all yesterdays entries have been removed, this was a no frills what you see is what you get last time i was in,got really pissed on rough cider in hear in the mid 70's when i was about 15

18 Jun 2008 12:33

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

compaired to the majority of spoons, i've always found the service in here reasonably prompt

17 Jun 2008 13:05

The Watermill Inn, Ings

ale lovers paradise, food was very nice too, undoubtedly one of the best pubs in England

17 Jun 2008 12:40

The Jolly Fenman, Blackfen

my father-in-law took my wife and his 80 year old sister in hear for a meal as they were visiting in the area, appalling aparently

12 Jun 2008 13:07

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

it's a harvester,so people shouldn't be to suprised to find conveyor belt food, plastic decor, pasturised beer and no soul

12 Jun 2008 13:02

The Prince Albert, Plumstead

another one bites the dust.............due for demolision to extend the school next door

12 Jun 2008 12:45

Great Harry, Woolwich

been in here for the last couple of Sundays, and although this place seems to lack any atmosphere, had a couple of nice ales that tasted ok,got served reasonably quickly, and it wasn't so packed that you couldn't get a seat,as i said it's not the greatest pub in the world, they could certainly do with cleaning the tables a bit quicker, and it seems to have retained the atmosphere of the wallpaper shop that it once was,but all in all there are worse places you could go in woolwich for a bevvie

27 May 2008 13:11

The Bull, Woolwich

big pub next to woolwich arsenal station

22 May 2008 13:16

The Crown, Greenwich

my son and his school mates have been grtting served in here sinse he was sixteen

22 May 2008 12:48

The Bull Inn, Bulverhythe

spent the week end in Hastings with my extended family at the Haven up the road from here, we went in on a Saturday evening about six thirty, and allthough we hadn't booked, asked if they could handle a party of thirteen adults and three kids, which they managed quite admirably by shuffling a few tables about, our food came out pretty much together, and was very nice, the beer was well kept, i tried the kents best and master brew both of which were very nice, shame there was no bishops finger, but never mind, the staff were helpful and friendly, the pub is a lovely traditiopnal old building with a great beer garden,i would deffinately go back, but may be i'd book next time if turning up with such a large group

19 May 2008 13:57

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

havn't been in for a few months but it seems like my last disappointment with the food wasn't a one off judging by the last review,i've had enough good meals in hear, and the beer and setting have always been good so I'll probably give it a go over the bank hols'so I'll be in touch

30 Apr 2008 12:56

The Old Mill, Plumstead

i was in here Saturday and as the last person states, was a bit on the short side for the beer, which is most unusual, there was just THeakstons XB a dark mild, and the promise of bitter and twisted, we tried the dark mild which we managed to get through about half of before we gave up and tried the bitter and twisted which was very nice,I tried the XB next which was also good, and by then he also had youngs on the go,i'm in here regularly and it's the first time I was disappointed for choice, and although the dark mild was foul, the next two were spot on so I'll forgive them as this seems to have been a one off

28 Apr 2008 13:53

The Lord Kitchener, Welling

got invited here for a bank holiday lunch, and as I,m not that keen on carvery grub I wasn't particulaly looking forward to it,but I must say I was pleasantly suprised, shame theirs no real ales, but the bombardier smooth was not to bad

16 Apr 2008 13:50

The Earl Haig, Bexleyheath

didn't rate the food, but had a nice pint of Harveys

16 Apr 2008 13:43

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

i'm allways suprised when people expect courdon blue cusine from a cheap boozer,I go in here for a couple after work some times and allways find the service promt, especialy for a Spoons, the beer decent and cheap,if you want real crap at tourist prices try the Silver Cross over the road, and if you want fine dining go to one of the many restaurants in the west end

16 Apr 2008 13:28

The Watermill Inn, Ings

spent last week in the lakes and fully intended touring a few of the pubs and sampling some of the local ales, but after eating and drinking here on the first night I just kept going back, the food and the beer where tops, and with about ten ales on the go,many of which are brewed on the premesis,it's real ale heaven, will defenately be back when i'm next in the area,......check out the specials board if your goimg to eat

14 Apr 2008 13:52

The Earl of Chatham, Woolwich

i'm amazed this place seems to get such glowing endorsments, a bit to glowing to be genuine if you ask me

14 Apr 2008 13:27

The Bull, Woolwich

there are two pubs called the bull, one as the previous listing says is right by woolwich arsenal station, this one in Shooters Hill is a totally different place

14 Apr 2008 13:21

Angarrack Inn, Angarrack

glad to hear there now serving HSD,will be back in August to give it a try

14 Apr 2008 13:05

The White Swan, Charlton

may pay it a visit if just to see the juggling barmaid

27 Mar 2008 12:39

The Old Mill, Plumstead

glad to see this place is getting a bit of recognition as it's far and away the best real ale pub for miles, always a great selection always well kept, and a real country feel tucked away on the quite side of the common

26 Mar 2008 13:02

The Exeter Inn, Dawlish

one of the best in the town centre, tucked away in a little alley way just off the main drag, nice relaxed family vibe with some well kept ales

26 Mar 2008 12:47

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren

it's a shame that such a lovely pub with such stuning views think that's enough to drag in the mug holiday punters, thing is during the peak season there probably right, and good food and service, even common courtacy arn't really nesessary

26 Mar 2008 12:43

Fox Under The Hill, Woolwich

not been in for a while, stopped using it as the food and service got steadily worse every time we went in,

12 Mar 2008 13:02

The Anglesea Arms, Woolwich

probably yhe last remaining locals boozer in woolwich, rough and ready woolwichites, not the sort of place you'd take a girl for a first date, more an after work pint for the locals kind of place

12 Mar 2008 12:52

The Bird In Hand, Hayle

not sure about this place, used to have a micro brewery on the premesis, but I think thats now defunked, probably better places in the area

25 Feb 2008 13:11

Great Harry, Woolwich

havn't been in here for a while, but passed by the other day and noticed there seemed to be a lot af families and middle aged respectable looking types eating and drinking, but juding by the last comment posted this may not allways be the case,

25 Feb 2008 13:03

The Kings Arms, Bexleyheath

had a meal in here ages ago which was very nice, but as it was so long ago I cant really comment, seems to be geared up to the passing trade from the busy shops as it's locality on the fringe of the pedestrianised area right next to asda,

25 Feb 2008 12:43

The Duke, Deptford

used to go in here when I lived in Deptford, used to get a lot of students, decent enough place to have a few pints

8 Feb 2008 12:49

The Dog and Bell, Deptford

I havn't been in sinse the new landlord took over, used to live a stones throw,so was lucky enough for it to be my local, still seems to have hung on to the great reputation built up over the years by the previos landlord, really interesting mix of locals, regulars and the occasional international celeb

8 Feb 2008 12:45

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone

always been very quite for a spoons establishment, which means you dont have to fight some one to get a drink, the beers are o.k.and although i havn't been in for about a year, the food was allways a let down

4 Feb 2008 13:07

Isaac Merritt, Paignton

great pub, just goes to show how a spoons pub could be run,the ones in the west country are allways far better, and this takes it a stage further, best in town

4 Feb 2008 12:58

The Foresters Arms, Welling

drove past here last week and saw it was back in business, can't give an opinion as I 'aint bin in

30 Jan 2008 14:06

The Alma, Sidcup

in for a couple of jars last thursday evening around 7.30,hadn't been in sinse the smoking ban but it was still very busy, mainly locals, good relaxed vibe, the range of ales is a bit disappointing, pride and courage best, but they were both in good order, they now have a shed in the spacious rear garden with a heater for the smokers, this is a lovely traditional boozer, and the ban dosn't seem to have dented it,in fact my misses was almost gassed out by tobacco fog last time we were in

30 Jan 2008 13:58

The Star Inn, Crowlas

can't wait to give this place a try

28 Jan 2008 12:53

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

great little pub, lovely HSD will definatly be be going in for a meal on my return to Hayle this year,if you want to eat book a table, very busy in the hols

28 Jan 2008 12:47

The Old Mill, Plumstead

apparently just been listed in the good beer guide, quite right too, always up to five constantly changing, excellently kept real ales, relativly chav free, proper pub atmos, probably hasn't changed inside since the fifties,if you want plastic interious and fizzy beer this isn't for you

18 Jan 2008 13:50

The Foy Boat, Ramsgate

went in here last year with the wife, the ales were well kept and the food was reasonable, nothing outstanding but would certainly go back for more

17 Jan 2008 12:42

The Black Boy, Sidcup

my son got jumped and had his ear bitten off in here, great place!!! not sure if they serve food

4 Jan 2008 13:33

The Earl of Chatham, Woolwich

I see some one has had my review removed, this wont change the fact that this pub is a hole

21 Nov 2007 13:27

The Railway Telegraph, Forest Hill

about 40 of us desended on this pub after a family funeral in the area, the landlord had laid on a very nice buffet, and the pub was clean and well run,the beer was good with a wide veriety, allthough Bishops Finger didn't appear to be on,there was spitfire and master brew, but I can't comment on there condidion as I stuck to the hurlimans,I didn't see any dodgy looking characters lurking about, but as I said we where mob handed so unlikly to be intimidated, seemed like a nice family run traditional boozer, with a great two tier beer garden, would certainly go back if I was in the area,I'll go with the landlady and give it a 7/10

14 Sep 2007 13:28

London Inn, Torquay

came in here twice last week on family holiday, standard spoons set up, but the food was above standard for what you'd normaly expect from these places, ales were good

14 Aug 2007 19:06

Brass Monkey, Teignmouth

great little pub with well kept HSD,seems to be more for the locals than the tourist

14 Aug 2007 19:00

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren

back from dawlish, and as I said went in here for a meal on Saturday night, and after waiting about ten minutes for the surley barmaid to grace me by agnologing my presence,I managed to order a beer, got seated at our reserved table, and I ordered the chefs special lasagne, which unfortunatly turned out to be some dodgy slop, with very little meat or pasta, the views are spectacular and it's a great setting, but I think that's what you pay for rather than good food or service, didn't bother going back, had a lasaggne in the wetherspoons in Torquay a few days later and it was a 100% better, well worth a visit if your in Torquay

14 Aug 2007 18:55

The Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren

staying up the road next week so, I've booked a table for Sat night, hope it lives up to the favourable reviews, will be in touch

30 Jul 2007 12:52

The Horse Bar, Waterloo

I was brought up round here when this was the horse and groom the red lion up the road is now called wallrus, what was the hercules opposite is now an indian restuerant, all the boozers down the Cut are all trendy wine bars,if you want a real pub go to the duke of sussex or the crown and cushion

14 Jun 2007 10:53

The New Inn, Winchelsea

glad to hear the new manager takes an interest in the quality of the beer,I was in here last year and after frying the speckled hen I stuck to guiness for the rest of the night as the ale was'nt right, the food was'nt great either and I did'nt plan on returning if I was in the area again, may just give it another chance

4 May 2007 13:20

The Pullman, Woolwich

don't usually like to see old established pubs redused to rubble, but I won't be mourning the pullmans demise

30 Apr 2007 13:47

The Welcome Inn, Eltham

this place has been standing idle for about 8 years now,and as the last review states this lovely old building has now suffered further deterioration due to fire,I can't understand why it's been allowed to fall into such a sorry state as it used to be very busy,it's in a good location, and allways seemed to have a good vibe,I think the hungry horse half a mile up the road was the big nail in it's coffin, let's hope they can restore the place to it's former glory and it dosn't open up as another noodle bar

30 Apr 2007 13:41

The Robin Hood and Little John, Bexleyheath

must agree with all the other reviews, absolute top pub

30 Apr 2007 13:13

The Toby Carvery, Bexleyheath

about what you would expect from a pub chain eatery, family friendly,

30 Apr 2007 12:55

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

hadn't been in here since Fullers took it over,so when i popped in a few weeks ago and found a full range of well kept fullers beers I was quite pleased that they seemed to be keeping the tradition of the last landlord as a real ale pub, although the bar maid who kept winking at me didn't go down to well with the wife,so I thought i'd come back and try the food as that used to be great,so we went in on Saturday night,to be greeted by the winking barmaid again, the service seemed o.k. but unfortunatly the food wasn't really all that,I got gravey with my steak and ale pie rather than parsley sauce, and the mash was lumpy, and my wife said her steak was worse than Wetherspoons, which was a shame as the beer was great and the pub its self is lovely

23 Apr 2007 13:00

23 Apr 2007 12:59

The Mitre, Greenwich

nice old pub, have been to better places, locals seemed friendly enough, and the london pride was good, this is the place to go in central greenwich if you want to avoid the tourist, and don't fancy wetherspoons

20 Apr 2007 13:51

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

must agree with the last shout, nice well kept ales, value for money, but has about as much soul as a doctors waiting room, this place really lacks atmosphere even for a wetherspoons

20 Apr 2007 13:41

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

been in here quite a few times as I work just around the corner, I've allways found the service promt, especially for a spoons pub, nice building, nice location and value for money, what else do you want?

20 Apr 2007 13:30

The Queens, Upton Park

went in here wednesday night after the chelsea hammers match, which as an away fan was probably not to wise a move,it was chock full of not so happy hammers baying for some blue blood,so we thought we better drink up before some one spotted the chelsea shirt peeping over the top of our jumpers, might be a nice place on non match days, but best avoided when theres a game on

20 Apr 2007 13:19

The Foresters Arms, Welling

this place caught fire about a year ago

17 Apr 2007 16:41

The Chichester Arms, Mortehoe

best in the area, if you want to eat BOOK,beer great, top notch real ales, lovely little village with great views

17 Apr 2007 12:42

The Fortescue Arms, Woolacombe

been in here a couple of times the food was good as was the beer, but it would have to be to compete with the Chichester Arms up yhe road

17 Apr 2007 12:37

The Lord Raglan, Woolwich

been in here once or twice as it's right on my door step, average locals boozer, not bad but i'd much rather spend 15 mins walking up to the old mill on plumstead common

16 Apr 2007 11:17

The Prince Albert, Plumstead

havn't actually been in here, but judging by the mottly looking crew gathered out side I wouldn't want to, go to the old mill instead

16 Apr 2007 11:12

Sidcup Place, Sidcup

would have to agree with the other views on this, mostly geared up as a place to eat, but o.k. if thats what your looking for, beer was allright but no real ales

12 Apr 2007 12:43

The Old Mill, Plumstead

still the best in the area

12 Apr 2007 12:20

Angarrack Inn, Angarrack

been in here last year for a meal, which was nice, ales were well kept but that seems to be the case with all the st austel pubs,no HSD though which is allways disapointing

2 Apr 2007 16:57

The Director General, Woolwich

i've heard it's being knocked down to make way for the new tesco's,pity as it's a nice old trad style boozer, not been in for years but it used to be very popular

27 Mar 2007 17:13

The Elephant and Castle, Woolwich

apparantly opens early in the morning,as it's on the market

27 Mar 2007 17:09

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

went to investigate the state of play last night, and as you would expect from a havester no real ales on the hand pumps which have been stripped from the bar any way, thay did have speckled hen on the normal beer pumps, the restuarant vibe hadn't really changed but it's now a no smoking which was nice for a recent quitter, have contacted cask marque, but I still quite like this place

23 Feb 2007 12:10

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

it has reopened as a Harvester, I see it still displaying the cask marque,I'll have to have a look see next time I'm down there

21 Feb 2007 16:02

The Yacht, Greenwich

was in here last week, great pub, great river view, beer was lovely if a bit pricey, but over all seemed like a nice place to while away an after noon over looking the Thames

19 Feb 2007 17:00

The Star Inn, Plumstead

popped in last Sunday thought I'd give it a try on my way to the old mill, was a lot busier than I expected, and was pleasant enough, but the bombadier wasn't as good as it could have been, but other wise not to bad

19 Feb 2007 16:44

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

a right hole, tourist trap,go to the Lord Moon over the road

9 Feb 2007 13:58

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

my advise to rich would be to e-mail wetherspoons head office,I moaned to cask marque ones about the quality of the ales in one of there pubs, they forwarded it to spoons, who to there credit wrote to me appologising, and i've not had a bab pint sinse in this particular pub(the wrong 'un in bexleyheath)

9 Feb 2007 13:54

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

better than average spoons, nice building, quicker than average service, good range of beers

9 Feb 2007 13:47

The Packet Station, Falmouth

one of,if not the best spoons you could find, all though the ones in the west country tend to be far superior to there London cousins, great beer, nice food, promt service, clean tables and helpful staff, sound familier?,not if you are use to the ones in London

9 Feb 2007 13:43

Lifeboat Inn, St Ives

like most of the st austell pubs the beer was well kept and the food was good,I'm sure there are some crap boozers in St Ives but I've yet to find one

9 Feb 2007 13:26

The Bluffs, Hayle

bit of a hole,o.k. to watch the footy, and a great view of the bay and St Ives,I think it's part of the Haven holiday park up the road, and has a club house vibe, young min wage staff, average beer(no ales)top prices, ropey conveyor belt food, but great if all you want is a couple of lagers on the nice terrace over looking the bay

9 Feb 2007 13:18

The Cornubia Hotel, Copperhouse

been in here a couple of times to watch the footy, got chatting to some locals who seem quite friendly, beer great,no HSD though which was disapointing

9 Feb 2007 13:09

Bucket Of Blood, Phillack

suprisec to here some one slagging off the B of B, but I must admit I did think it not quite as good sinse the old land lord retired and his son took over

9 Feb 2007 13:05

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

havn't been in here for a while, was told it was reopening as a harvester

8 Feb 2007 16:57

The Old Mill, Plumstead

poped in yesterday for a sunday lunchtime quickie, ended up staying for three, this really is the place for lovers of real ale, there where five well kept real ales, the landlord calls them his babies and the two I tried really were top notch, there was also a cheese board crackers nibbles and dips on the bar,a good friendly vibe, the best in the area 10 out of 10

5 Feb 2007 10:42

Great Harry, Woolwich

popped in for a couple yesterday lunch time(sunday)service seems to have got a lot better here lately, great real ale, but seems to lack atmosphere,it used to be a wall paper shop, and appears to have kept the feel

22 Jan 2007 12:45

The Duke of Sussex, Waterloo

I grew up round here and when ever my bro's and me get together we allways seem to end up in the Duke,I've had some good nights in here, the guv'nor is a good bloke, and they have some live music on fridays, very popular with the locals, and a lively atmosphere, gets my vote, though i've usually inbibed a fare few whenever i've been in(no real ale)

16 Jan 2007 13:38

The Danson Stables, Danson Park

agree with the last comment more a restraurant, but you can get a decent pint of london pride, also speckled hen smooth which was different but nice, food was o.k. and service promt and friendly

16 Jan 2007 12:52

The Robin Hood and Little John, Bexleyheath

proper old unspoilt pub, great real ale, friendly staff and a real pub feel,a bit out of the way,but worth seeking out if your in the area

16 Jan 2007 12:45

The Wrong 'Un, Bexleyheath

somtimes go for a meal there saturday evening, foods a bit pot luck, but the no smoking rule seems to have improved the place, not bad as spoons go

16 Jan 2007 12:40

The Rose and Crown, Worthing

spent saturday night in worthing,so we popped in for a meal, both me and the misses thought the food was excelent the service was good, staff friendly, the atmosphere was good and allthough we only sat in the restraunt bit which was very nice,on my way through to the rope handled toilet the main bar was buzzing without being roudy,I think the over 21 rule helps, my only gripe was there was no real ale, otherwise it would have got a 9

15 Jan 2007 12:58

Lamb and Flag, Canonstown

pop in here a couple of times during my stay in hayle, didn't eat there but judging by the popularity it must have been good, beer and atmosphire great

9 Jan 2007 11:17

Great Harry, Woolwich

I stopped using this pub a couple of years ago despite the good rael ale at good prices this didn't detract from the awful service, surly bar staff, and nearly geting into a fight every time I went in,I tried it again just recently and found it quite improved, but this might have been more to do with the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon(about one oclock)and not so busy, worth a walk to the Rose if you want a better vibe

8 Jan 2007 14:05

The Alma, Sidcup

nice old unspoilt locals pub, allthough not a regular,I found it a pleasant place to sit and have a couple of jars of well kept London Pride

The Castle Inn, St Ives

one of many great pubs in st ives

5 Jan 2007 14:21

The Prince Albert (Rose's), Woolwich

definatly the best pub in woolwich if your looking for a traditional pub and a decent pint of real ale,e17 must of gone in on a bad day as I've allways found it friendly if a bit shabby
